Problem with Greek subtitles

Hello,

I recently reformatted my PC (Windows 10) and since then i encounter problems with the Greek downloaded subtitles. Whenever i try to open them with a text editor (notepad, notepad++), they display some random characters like ÃáìçìÝíïé ÑþóïéÝñåéòôéêÜíåéòåóý. I changed the file to all possible encodings (Unicode,UTF-8) and still the same. I have also changed Language for non Unicode programs to Greek(Greece) (Control Panel -> Clock,Language and Region -> Region - > Administrative - > Language for non Unicode programs) but the problem remains.
I also downloaded K-Lite codec pack and no result.
I can type, save and read in greek format but the subtitles refuse to work :/
is it a .srt file? or something like that? because if it is, you are the dumbest MF on the planet.

Srt files are subtitles.
I think you're both dumbasses because Srt files are plain text.

Try another media player like mpv or Potplayer to rule out a specific software problem
