Beginner tips for everyone.
1) Don't waste stardust and candies. These are your most precious stuff during end game.
2) Catch everything but at the start, prioritise on Pidgey, Caterpie and Weedle to conserve Pokeballs but do catch rare Pokemon.
3) it is better to catch really high CP or really low CP Pokemon and ignore mid CP Pokemon (they are harder to catch than low CP Pokemon but doesn't give anything extra), if you are running low on Pokeball.
4) Pokemon could spawn anywhere but some parks, places of interest like museum could be a nest for certain Pokemon. For example in Tokyo Gyoen Park is a Pikachu nest, while Setagaya Park is a Dratini nest. Share these nest location here to benefit everyone.
5) Any Pokemon caught while you are below lvl20 is practically useless for Gym. Don't waste time, stardust and candies. Its so important I had to repeat point no.1.
6) If you are willing to spend some money for in-app purchase, get Bag and Pokemon storage upgrade. Next, spend your money on Egg incubators. You can have up to 9(?) incubators at the same time so you don't waste your mileage.
7) Easiest top tier Pokemon to attain is Vaporeon but don't use the name trick "Rainer" until you have a Eevee with at least 600-800cp because it only work once 100%.
8) Point no.2 re: Pidgey, Caterpie and Weedle, these Pokemon collect as many candies as possible. Once you can evolve about 70 of them combined, pop a lucky egg and do a evolve session. Each evo cost 12 candies but gives 500xp. With Lucky Egg, it will be 1000xp. You can level up quickly by doing this.
9) If possible, have another device to run Pokevision.com. This will help you monitor if there's any rare Pokemon that pops up near you.
10) If you could spend a day or two sitting in between 3 or more Pokestops with Lure Modules, you could quickly go from lvl1-15.
11) Pokemon lured by Lure Module cannot be detected by pokevision, so, always walk through any Pokestop with Lure Module, you might find a surprise Snorlax waiting for you!
12) Throwing Pokeball: Land anywhere within the white outer ring to trigger the Pokeball. Land within the the coloured inner ring (green, orange or red) to achieve Nice (+10xp), Great (+50xp) or Excellent (+100xp) throw.
13) How to achieve: Nice throw: Land within the coloured ring when it is 75% of the outer ring size. Great throw: Land within the coloured ring when it is >50% of the outer ring size. Excellent throw: Land within the coloured ring when it is >15% of the outer ring size (these are just estimation).
