Anyone else find this annoying? I agree that it should be in place to avoid abuse, but whenever I go to search something I have to wait 30 seconds, even on the first search. I think this is because typically I use the 'view new posts' link and that counts as a search.

If there was a way to have the 'view new posts' not count as a search it may resolve the issue.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for pointing that out, regardless even epic members still have to wait 5 seconds before doing their first search. Would be nice if the 'view new posts' did not reset the search flood timer.

I would suggest upgrading to 3p1c

Post flood limit set to 1 second (*additionally requires Ub3r)
Search flood limit set to 5 seconds

You can't have View New Posts not count towards the timer because it just adds parameters to search.php.

This is the way MyBB is setup. Editing system files can cause issues.

What are you trying to search every 5 seconds or less. It takes that amount of time at least to just read the thread topic titles. ❓

Anyways the delay is to prevent resource exhaustion. Search queries can be strenuous to the server when the dayabase gets large, which I imagine HFs is a good size itself.

MyBB didn't make doing so easy, so you have to modify the core files. When you modify the core files your changes will eventually just be overwritten by an update and a major headache ensues.

I hit the flood protection regularly because of typos like hitting the apostrophe when pressing enter. I think it's annoying, but I'm not going to pay for 3P1C to save 25 seconds twice a month.
In conclusion: Omniscient is aware that waiting is an annoyance, which is why you can pay to make most of it go away (Buy 3P1C). WAD.
