Shared Hosting vs VPS

Hello HF,

I wanted to setup a CMS (Wordpress with Woocommerce), however I can remember someone telling me that using shared hosting isnt a good idea...
So I was wondering whats the difference of a VPS compared to shared hosting.

I'll be hiring someone to set it up for me - I have no clue how that works...

VPS = Custom Server/Apache/PHP configurations
Plus a VPS will be faster as no one else is using it for hosting.
Shared Hosting = Set Configurations - Slower Performance
How many products will you have on your website? It can go with the shared hosting. All clients that i worked for were using shared. But if you have a lot of money to spend you can buy a vps. Just don;t forget that you will have to configure your vps.

quite a bunch, since there are lost of variations

I'll be going with the VPS
Using shared hosting normally isn't a long term plan. Shared hosting is not as good as hosting your own site on your own VPS because you're sharing resources.
If you are just going to run a CMS check into shared hosting by Namecheap, Hostgator and cloudieweb.com they are all good hosts, pretty secure of course you will need to also do some security measures to your actual website.

I recommend you go with Cloudieweb excellent provider or namecheap.

And by the sounds of it you are most likely not experienced too well with a vps considering you said you would need to hire someone so if this is the case I recommend you go with shared for now, get a little experience and as your website grows look into a VPS.
No need for a VPS in this case, Kat. Not much power needed to run a web store. :)

I went for the vps simply because i have more control and I prefer Digioceans payment system :)
Shared hosting puts your website on a server that's shared between yourself and other clients.
If their website is exposing the server to some sort of vulnerability, chances are your website can be compromised too.
It's a pretty outlandish scenario, but it could quite possibly happen.

Oh yeah and all that shit about sharing server resources, and the fact that it's usually cheap and low-spec to start with.

www.google.it . hahahahahahahahaha
Also another thing to note is if other websites on the server are used for spam or engage in blackbat seo methods then your website can be penalized in the eyes of search engines. This is known as a bad neighborhood.

VPS = full control
Shared = not full control
