Ive tried to setup a .htpasswd login on my website but when i enter the correct password i get a 500 internal server error, can anybody help me pls. The link to the .htpasswd is www . cyka . us/tes/test/Tartarus.html and username and password are both test, delete spaces between periods.

You added your password in the .htpasswd in plain text(i mean like "test")? You have to generate it: http://www.htaccesstools.com/htpasswd-generator/

Is an example snippet of code that goes into the .htpasswd
Follows the order of 'username':'encryptedpassword' which in this example is:
admin:password

Also need to add in the .htaccess below for the correct path:

Post the content of your .htaccess file here.

Make sure you haven't made it .htpasswd.txt
I know it's obvious but just check, it's the most common problem beginner problem when dealing with htaccess and htpasswd.

Make sure the file path inside the .htaccess to get to the .htpasswd is correct too.
