I've been learning to program as a hobby for a little over a month now for my final year of high school. I plan to study comp programming/network security in college but just want to get my feet wet.
Backstory aside, I learned html/css and dived into python. I've been reading automate the boring stuff with python for a bit but I'm more interested in starting c# now because that is the language that would go along with most of my end goals. Python on the other hand is a good scripting language but I want to learn a language that is closer to the machine.
Now, my question is to you guys. I've already began learning the concepts of python and stuff would it be healthy in my learning to just start c# and abandon python or just chug on through the rest of the book and start with c#
Posted this on reddit already but wanted the opinion of HF as well
Hey that's a good book you are reading. I always recommend it. You know what? stick to python. Even if you learn new language you will see python is very rewarding. You can just quickly prototype many stuff before you actually make something professional. The whole thing with learning c# is basically what you want to do in the end though. C# is pretty good for game developing in unity3d. If you want to go into game dev definitely learn c# or java-script.
concepts will not change much unless you switch paradigms but if you feel c# can help meet your goals then yes switch. but you do not need to abandon it completely
lmao you are a clone of me ;) . Senior also learned python and want to expand going to the same sector also in postsecondary. gl bro :)
In my opinion, learn Javascript. Javascript nowadays is taking over the industry and if you just starting college and you have a step in the door with javascript you'll be set. the JS frameworks are unbelievable and you'll be able to do both frontend and backend work.
Honestly, Javascript is the future (if it already isn't).

if he wishes to do web then yes but c#'s primary uses is desktop/mobile/games. js may be useless to him but again, depend his needs

I almost got the same path, I started with Python, then with html/css and then with c#. I also did a little javascript. I like learning c#. I would go for it. If you don't like it, you can always change to another language. Also most people say it is easier to learn c++ after you learned c#. Good luck!
This isn't actually my first time switching from python. I stopped learning python for a bit to learn html and css. I guess it is just a sign
If you plan on studying programming in school, it's first best to do a research to see which programming languages they will offer.
Learn the one they offer, so it'll be easy and fun in school :)
