Synopsis "The show's story revolves around Yuuri Katsuki, who carried all of Japan's hopes on his shoulders to win at the Gran Prix Finale ice skating competition, but suffered a crushing defeat. He returns home to Kyushu and half feels like he wants to retire, and half feels like he wants to continue ice skating. With those mixed feelings swirling inside him, he confines himself inside his parents house. Suddenly the five-time consecutive world championship ice skater Viktor Nikiforov appears before him, and along with him is Yuri Plisetsky, a young Russian figure skater who is already defeating his seniors. Viktor and both Yuris take up the challenge on an unprecedented Gran Prix series." [courtesy of MAL]
What's so great about this show?
This is being directed by Sayo Yamamoto, who's been an episode director on shows like Ergo Proxy, Eureka Seven, Gunslinger Girl, Samurai Champloo, Panty and Stocking, and plenty of others. Yuri!!! on Ice will be her directorial debut, as well as her completely original series (which are becoming harder to come by honestly). The show should be in good hands under studio MAPPA, well known for Zankyou no Terror and Kids on the Slope. Give it a shot, support a nice director and her original concept.
The show is essentially an ice skating sports anime. I've actually never seen anything remotely like that in anime, but I'll be damned - it looks promising. The PV clips look pretty good, and the animation on the ice skating scenes is veeery fluid. Of course all of this can change when the show actually airs, but we'll find out when that happens, right?
PV
There's like three different PVs out for it, you should check 'em out.
Episode 1 Impressions(Contains spoilers) Spoiler (Click to View)
All in all, it was pretty good! Without spoiling anything, the first episode has a fair bit of comedy in it, but also keeps some of its serious tone. The animation was nice, the ice skating scenes were well done. Check it out if you haven't.
Should You Watch?
Give episode one a shot. I'll give a proper answer when it airs.

Hey, that's not always a bad thing. It means studios are taking risks, which is nice to see. We're talking millions of dollars into producing shows that won't be as safe of an investment. Except for Keijo.
Looks interesting, will have to wait for it to finish airing before I take a look into it. I'm iffy with sports anime, however generally some of them I do consider to be worth watching.

Let's hope these risks pay off. Except for Keijo.

I didn't think it would be good because you know parkour anime, but I'll try it. Except for Keijo.

It's essentially a lesbian genre, I actually really like it.
