Beat Lockdown Browser (Respondus Lockdown Browser)

Hello guys,

This week I will be taking an exam online for one of my classes in college. Of course the professors aren't stupid enough to let us take them using any old browser or everyone would get 100. They have a special browser called

Respondus Lockdown Browser

Depending on the professor's requirements, this browser can record the student taking the exam and submit it along with the exam. It can also disable task manager as well as many other computer functions such as the use of other browsers.

I have already studied for this exam, but why not also study how to defeat the lockdown browser!

There were several old and patched methods to beat the browser such as using ctrl alt del to bring up task mgr and switch windows that way, but these are all patched so we must think creatively! The solution still seems simple

Just reading through the recent features of the browser I am able to thinks of a couple theoretical ways to beat it. The first being that not all professors require the webcam supervision. The exam I will be taking does not require this so I have it very easy!

If your professor does require the webcam, you can try to utilize the program called manycam to create a virtual webcam and have it play whatever you want. On my home desktop I have several unused hard drives in my machine with tbs ant tbs of storage. I could sit down recording myself just browsing HF for 2 hours then save the video file and play it through the virtual manycam webcam as I take my test!

Now if you are lucky and your professor doesnt require a webcam, then there are a few ways you can easily beat the lockdown browser!

First off I have read that you can run the program as a limited user or guest, this will make the browser unable to perform some of its restrictions because it doesn't have its proper privileges.

Teamviewer or VNC is my preferred method and the method I will be using this week. I am going to be taking this exam with a friend. Friend will be taking exam and I will be connected via Teamviewer watching the screen. As my friend gets to each question I will simply google the answer on my end and either select it on my own or let her do it, it doesn't really matter.

Perhaps lockdown browser prevents internet access to programs in addition to preventing use of other browsers?

Simple solution, USE A VM!

Simply set up a windows VM and take the test in the vm, easy and most foolproof way to beat the lockdown browser and you can easily do this alone or with a friend. Use a friend to maximize efficiency.

If the test doesn't require you to take it in one sitting then this gets too easy to be real...

A last and super simple and common sense method would be to screen record yourself scrolling through every single question. Stop the test, and research each question and write out a paper of all the answers then start up the test again and enter in the answers and get 100%...

Here is a legitimately foolproof method I just thought of while writing my post as well...

Set up laptop with a second monitor attached. Have the displays be duplicated so what is on one screen is on the other. Sit in a room with a friend. Laptop facing you, second monitor facing friend, friend has laptop looking up the answers as he/she sees them appear on the screen facing him/her.
I hope some of these methods if not all will work for me and any of you who have to take locked down online exams in college or highschool!

Note I have not actually been able to test any of these methods yet, as i have not yet been able to use the browser to test. If anyone has tried any of these methods and failed or had success please leave feedback!

The browser may possibly detect a VM or something like remote access like TeamViewer, so I don't know if these would work. You could very easily simulate the webcam though. If you had a good enough loop.

perhaps the browser could detect the VM or TV connection, but could it detect a well crypted Luminosity links stub?

Even if it could I can simply use another laptop or smartphone to look up the answers so long as the camera isnt recording.

If the camera is recording then once again I can use the manycam method and do the same!

From what i have read online though there doesnt seem to be any VM or remote access detection in effect though so I shouldn't have any issue

It would likely detect any shitty RAT on here as they're all VNC based to some degree. But I don't know much about Respondus so I don't personally know if it will pick up on any VM or remote access software.

Well the most likely event is that it does indeed detect the remote access whether I use TV or a RAT. Much less likely is the VM detection.

No matter what I can simply use another machine or friend on another machine to get the answers

I believe that it wont detect any of the methods but that may be wishful thinking...

Did this work? I just enrolled in an online degree that requires this software for tests :(

Let me know any tips or tricks please!!

I provided a service for students at my college last semester

In one room, we had a computer hosting njrat and a couple kids with textbooks and laptops

In the other room the kid taking the online test with a laptop and a smartphone positioned right behind the laptop

Us in the room were monitoring the test takers screen and texting the answer to each question as we look up the answer to that smartphone. Because it's positioned close behind the laptop screen, on the respondus camera it looks like ur just looking st the screen

Also at the beginning when you start respondus, it asks you to record test conditions and surroundings or whatever... put the phone under the laptop and then do it, then slid the phone out from under it then place the laptop back down and take the test.

Make sure the phone is on silent mode so respondus recording won't hear vibrations obviously

This might be completely wrong, but are you saying it records the screen? Like
the browser records it? If so, can't you connect another monitor, so duel monitors,
it only records the one screen? You can have a different browser open on the other
monitor?

Sorry if this is wrong 🤨😁

It records screen, records the webcam, and also blocks all programs such as teamviewer, skype, other programs from accessing the internet. It does not detect rats tho as I have tested it. Respondus also forced you to close down all the applications you have running. Again, rats are not detected

Dual monitor would only work if you had a really long cable and duplicate displays to someone in another room. Rat is much more convenient

Does it record you display devices? Will this be an issue if I use this and pay a friend to feed me answers? Thanks btw

It records ur display yes.

The method that has always worked for me was using a rat such as njrat and using Remote Desktop to see the test on the other computer.

Other remote services may not work. For instance I have tested skype Remote view and google Remote Desktop viewer. These don't work.

TeamViewer is also detected and blocked.

I haven't tested LogMeIn or windows Remote Desktop process. I doubt logmein would work

Best to stick with stealthy Remote processes like rats!

I tried doing the manycam method to no avail, Asks to shut down manycam.
Anyone able to bypass it? Debating just covering my camera and claiming technical issues if asked about it.
