Alright guys, so I had an iphone 5s that was found by my brother in law about 8 months ago. The phone was found pre-locked, pre-icloud, etc. The phone was never placed in "Find My iPhone" which I was surprised since it was locked.
When he first got it, we tried to reset it a few days later. It didn't work. It didn't even attempt to install a fresh firmware version, DFU mode would force the phone to reboot to the apple logo/lock icloud page.
Well last night, he brought it over and we tried again. I entered the PW to lock the phone out of the password unlock option, Put it in DFU mode (home/power button), Popped it into iTunes & it let me restore to the latest firmware. Me knowing this hasn't worked previously, wasn't so excited and doubted it working. Well after about 20 minutes and the phone rebooting a few times, it installed the fresh firmware and let me go through the first few "setup your new iPhone" options, after connecting through wifi, it gave me all the fresh setup options, and hit home-screen. Added a fresh icloud to it, started downloading apps, etc.. The phone (since last night) has functioned with no issue and I'm (now) surprised, it actually worked.
a- No, I'm not selling no method to by-pass iCloud.
b- No, I didn't do anything out of what was explained.
* c- Was this a coincidental accidental success? Does timing have anything to do with how long an iCloud lock is active? Is there any way remotely (without the device) the previous owner could have deactivated iCloud from the device? Has anyone else had any luck with this?
I've spent countless hours trying to find every possible way in and out to do this and I felt stumped last night after I felt like I accidentally finally made it happen. Fml, or Nah? Lol.
