DDOS ip vs DDos Hardware protection? is there anything like dat?

i'm planning to open a ran private server and hosting it at buyvm.net.

and i have a friend saying that buyvm offers DDOS Protection on IP while ovh offers DDOS Protection on hardware. and he said i should choose hardware over ip

and here i am, so confuse on what he is saying, so i tried googling it out but cant find any related articles/topics about that.

he's on vacation now and i can't reach him out. i am scheduled to buy in the next day but it seems i wont reach him before that.

is DDOS Protection IP is no help at all? is it the same? is my friend an idiot? can someone explain it to me? thanks!

much help will be appreciated!
from what i know (not much) ip ddos protection is much better as your server doesn't get effected at all from the ddos attack but in hardware ddos protection, your server is the same server that tries to dump the traffic, if you are running a game server i could imagine a lot of lag from that. as for ovh using protection on hardware i am not sure of that. I am not even sure how there would be a hardware ddos protection. as for is your friend an idiot, he probably is and he is just trying to sound smart (just like me)
These are basically the same thing but I know what your friend is trying to say. I would say protected IP is better. But yea basically your friend is just trying to sound smart lol.
IP Protection is definitely a better decision if you truly want to protection your server from a relatively serios DDos attack.
Ew... actually all ddos protections should be outside your server.
I mean, it must be like.

packet --> anti-ddos --> your server.

I think that what you guys know as ip protection are the ip ranges? actually some companies offer different anti ddos deppending on the ip range, they might have 100.x.x.x for 1Gbps anti ddos and 101.x.x.x for 10Gbps anti ddos.

And about hardware, there are like servers such as cisco that are specially dedicated to network security but not sure what do you mean.
What some ddos protection providers do is route the traffic based on the fact wheter the IP is ddos protected or not or what level of ddos protection that ip address has.
For example :

standard user : internet -> DC routers -> your server

ddos protected user : internet -> DC routers -> cisco firewall -> your server

at the "DC routers" level the routers decide wheter they should route the packet thru a cisco firewall or not based on what is the destination ip in that packets header.
If your IP address is ddos protected then it goes thru a cisco firewall.

I hope this was easy to understand

It really depends on what you are trying to block from Direct Denial of Service attacks. I purchased a router that had a built in virtual private network, so if someone had your IP address for whatever reason it would not affect your personal connection at all. But if you are hosting a website/something on a server you can use some basic things such as cloudflare which will mask the orginal IP adress of the server in which your site is hosted on. Therefor, the attack will be sent elsewhere and your server will remain online.
What the fuck is a hardware DDoS? Is it when you rapidly plug and unplug a USB into the server?
if your looking for ddos protection man jsut buy an nfo like a 3 or 4 core and be done with it not many people other than nets can hit it.

No it's what you kys because you don't know what hardware DDoS protection is
You're friend is stupid, please let him know.

I have a 16-Core NFO and I'd recommend it tbh. 95% of the community can't hit 10+ gbps and it's sad.
