This is my first tutorial. I struggled with this last night, and now that I've made it work I wanted to share it with others.
Whenever I get the ability to post links, I'll edit this thread.
How to make a Kali Linux Bootable USB Drive w/ Persistence
Prerequisites:
MiniTool Partition Wizard
Kali Linux
Universal USB Installer
A USB Drive (8GB+ is recommended)
-----------------------------------------------------------
Step 1.
Download the Kali Linux file and open up the Universal USB Installer. From the drop-down menu from the Linux Distribution section, scroll down until you see 'Kali Linux' and click it. Then, hit browse to look for the Kali Linux ISO file and make sure the path is correct. Select your USB Drive and hit 'Create' to start the process.
Step 2.
Once the process is done, you can close the Universal USB Installer. Open the MiniTool Partition Wizard and select your USB drive. Right click it and select "Move/Resize" Resize it to a reasonable amount, I allowed to gray area to take up half.
After this hit 'Okay'. Right-click on the unallocated space(grey area) and hit 'Create'. Set the partition label to 'persistence', 'Create as' = 'Primary' 'File System = Ext4' and then hit 'Okay'. Hit apply near the top-right corner, and wait.
Once the process is finished, you can boot into your USB.
Step 3.
Once you have loaded into your USB, hit 'Live USB Persistence'.
When you are booted in, open up a terminal and type in 'fdisk -l'. That's a lowercase L. If you see two devices, then you're good.
Example: '/dev/sdb1
/dev/sdb2'
Enter the following commands into the terminal:
mkdir -p /mnt/UUI
mount /dev/sdb2 /mnt/UUI
echo "/ union" /mnt/UUI/persistence.conf
umount /dev/sdb2 && reboot
-------------------------------------------------------
When you load into Kali Linux, hit Live USB Persistence and it should save your data when you shutdown from now on.
If there is no 'persistence' icon on your desktop, then you should be good.
Sorry for not having images in this post. I had them ready, but then I realized that I can't post them. Thank you for taking the time to read this tutorial, and if you have any questions/criticism then reply to the post.
