HackForum’s Guide to Deal Disputes & Safe Trading
BEFORE CREATING A DISPUTE READ THE FOLLOWING RULES:
1. HF will not be held responsible for deals made by members. All deals at your own risk.
2. No posting of private data in text form. Screenshots related to deals allowed (PayPal, PMs) only.
3. Do not contact staff about a deal dispute.
4. Any reputation you leave calling someone a scammer requires you to link to a deal dispute you've created.
5. Deal must have originated on HF and be tied to an HF member with a thread or PM.
6. Read Help Docs and stickies for additional information.

Reputation Policies Relating to Deal Disputes:
I was scammed. How can I leave a scammer rep?
Make a deal dispute in the ‘Deal Dispute’ section, making sure to read the stickies to use the proper format. You may then leave them a negative reputation with a link to the thread; you may not call them a scammer in a reputation in any other manner. You may not ask others to give them negative reputation for being a scammer either; you may only give negative reputation for scamming if you are the one scammed.
Someone called me a scammer in reputation, what do I do?
Calling someone a scammer without a link to the scam report in the reputation will result in the reputation being removed. However, if there is a link to a Deal Dispute thread they've created then Staff does not investigate these claims nor make it definitive whether the scam report is legitimate or not.
How do I report abuse or get the invalid rep removed?
You can PM the admin Omniscient. Be warned. If you did not read fully this page and the rep left on your account was indeed within policy, then you will get RepKilled without any hesitation. If you were left a scammer rep, we may also do a full investigation of your account. If we find out you're breaking any site policies, you will get a closed account.
What are examples of invalid scammer reputation?
• Ripped me off in a currency exchange in Skype
• This member stole $100 from me
• member has open scam reports
• Multiple account scammer
• scammed my friend
• chargeback on payment
• known scammer
• tried to scam
• took my money and didn't provide service
• this guy is a thief and will rip you off
Someone left me a Deal with Caution reputation, isn't that abuse?
We do not consider DWC (Deal with Caution) reputations abuse by itself. We consider it good advice for all members in all situations when doing deals.
How do I report an invalid scammer reputation?
We suggest you send them a Private Message informing them of site policy and the consequences unless they alter the reputation within 24 hours. Give them that time to alter it. Do not report the reputation to an admin until that 24 hours has passed. Do not threaten the member in the PM. Instead copy/paste this:
I am sending this PM to you because you've given me an invalid scammer reputation. Policy dictates that I send this text to you. HackForums policy requires that all scammer inferences in reputation require a link to a Deal Dispute forum thread that you have created. Either you didn't leave a link or the link you did leave is to a thread not created by you. As such you have 24 hours to alter your reputation to be within policy. Failure to do so will result in your reputation being reported to an admin which can result in severe action against your account. If you'd like to confirm this policy, please read this help doc:
//hackforums.net/misc.php?action=help&hid=20
STEP 4) THAT’S IT. Do NOT Message Staff, Make Multiple Posts, Gang Rep with Friends, Or Create Unnecessary Community Alerts!
You Got Scammed, That’s It. Please Read the next section to help prevent it from happening again. If you do then don't get mad if you're banned, closed, repkilled, warned, or ignored.

DON’T GET SCAMMED AGAIN
HackForum’s has numerous tools to prevent you from being scammed. However, ALL deals are at your own risk and the site is in no way responsible for your actions (or lack thereof).
Prevent Your Account from Being Hacked:
Country Lock: https://hackforums.net/cclock.php
The country lock feature allows you to lock the login location of your account to a specific country. This can be removed in the future so please add it.
GAUTH: https://hackforums.net/gauth.php
Gauth Tutorial: https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=5154633
Gauth required 2-factor authentication in order to login to your account. Enable it.
Know who you’re Dealing With:
Trust Scan: https://hackforums.net/trustscan.php
Trust Scan is used to identify all statistical information regarding that users profile. Check for Matching IP’s, if Gauth is Enabled, Email Changes, Password Changes, Account Age, Previous Deal Disputes (Claimed & Defending), Matching Regions and so on.
Trust Scan Info:
Code Important Information
The information provided is statistical data concerning member accounts which might assist you in making a decision to trust this member. All deals and interactions you have with members on HF are at your own risk we accept no responsibility or liability for the choices you make. This tool makes no claims whether a member is trustworthy or not. We advise extreme caution always. Do not contact Staff or Admins about any matching IP's.
Deal Disputes Database: https://hackforums.net/disputedb.php
The Deal Disputes Database is just that. A database of all deal disputes recorded by members of HF. The information is provided in the user’s Trust Scan as well.
Verify Secret: https://hackforums.net/verifysecret.php
If you’re one of the people who deal off site, please use this tool. Better yet don’t deal off site. Do everything through PM’s on HF.
Code Enter the uid of the user you want to share and verify a secret with. Only the user and you will get the exact same verification code secret. You can use this to verify in the HF IM XMPP service or even via Skype or Email. Just ask the user to go to the page ask them for the secret. If they give you a secret that doesn't match what you see, then you're not in contact with the user you think you are. A new secret is generated every day. So, on Monday your secret will be different from Sunday. Make sure you get current secret even with past contacts.
Assume EVERYONE Is A Scammer!!!

How to spot a scammer (From iBruteForce)
Scammers all work in different ways, but there are some similarities about their actions, here are some things to look out for while making a trade.
• Grammar. A lot of scammers operate in foreign countries, and it's usually noticeable by their poor grammar. It is advised to trade only with members of the same country where the laws are the same for the both of you.
• Stories. This is used very often. The scammer will lure you in with a sympathy-inducing story. This is a highly successful method. If the person you are trading with are legitimate, their personal life will not be mentioned during the trade.
• Find references to third parties. Many times, scammers will reference clients, secretaries, personal assistants, bank associates or other individuals who don't have anything to do with the transaction. The addition of these people in your correspondence is supposed to trick you into thinking that the transaction is very important. Scammers may also include in their correspondence fake forwarded emails from these supposed people. Remember, the trade is between you and them only.
• Pay attention. Scammers sometimes attempt to confuse potential victims by including a lot or irrelevant information in their correspondence so that the scam will be easier to complete. Sometimes ask them to repeat things they have said, if it's different from before, you're probably dealing with a scammer. If anything seems a little ''off'', cancel the trade.
• Follow your instincts, if you think you're dealing with a scammer, you probably are.
• Don't be rushed into anything. Scammers will often hurry you to trade, saying if the transaction isn't completed now, someone else will make the trade.
Use A Middleman If Possible:
Middlemen are in the middle of the transaction. For example, if you are paying $5 for a program, the middleman will receive your $5 and the program, and then forward them either side.
Both of you must trust the middleman involved.
Remember, if your client declines a middleman, cancel the trade immediately, they are probably a scammer. Choose a Middleman carefully, ANYONE can become a scammer.
Notable information would be Factor8’s (ex-staff) new Group ESCROW. The group is focusing on escrow (middleman) services.
Find free middleman services in this forum: Free Services and Giveaways
Irreversible Currency:
If you’re receiving irreversible currency it cannot be fraudulently disputed and taken back.
If you’re sending irreversible currency nothing can be done to recover your funds.
It works both ways, sorry.
This was the only deal dispute guide I could find which doesn't contain the "wait 24 hours before posting a deal dispute" rule so it must be a decent thread. Thanks for the contribution.
I don't middleman any deals on- or off-site. Please don't message me requesting my past services and certainly don't fall for anybody who claims to be me.
Great post - everybody should read it.
