I'm wanting to start a news website, while making money is at the back of my mind here, it's still a goal I'd like to achieve, I do know (especially starting out) that making any money from such a venture will be extremely difficult if not impossible.

I am doing this more as a general hobby/passion/interest

Has anyone run a similar site in the past?

Have you made any money from it?

Would you recommend I went down the route of less serious, more entertainment viral news or covering serious news and alternative media news, something like Anon HQ?

Any others tips or info?

How did you grow your following socially? I am reluctant to buy followers or use FaceBook Ads etc as I think more genuine, organically gained followers will be betetr suited and get more engagement out of those followers.

Anyway, yea, any help or advice would be much appreciated.

There are so many of these out already, but if you were going to do it I would get big pages on facebook to share your viral stories. I see them everywhere, and most of them are worded so well they make you want to click them anyhow. There's money to be made cause most of the time these websites are decorated with ad blocks all around the page.

If you went the Anon HQ-ish route, I'd still go the same venue for attracting traffic. Facebook shares from big accounts. I can't say what the price would be on the shares, but I can't imagine it would be that much since I see hundreds of shares from different websites. I can almost say you'd most likely make your money back from placing ads and having someone share that for you anyhow.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend it for money cause there is too much competition.

If you want, I have a couple of sites with domains I can sell you cheaply:
http://latestrealnews.xyz (site almost made, RSS resources needed) will complete and give it for $30

http://newses.xyz - just the domain - $5 (can make a website too)

edit: oh n also got http://todayandroid.xyz AND http://iwatches.review (just started basic SEO for this)

you can have em for real cheap

Can you tell me the detail too.. like rates, success % etc. Have a couple of other sites as well and may want to take these (or one of these) news sites just for experimentation.
