Guide: Easy ways to improve your Ranking

Common mistakes I've seen during my 2 years of boosting newbies

About me:
  • Peaked D3
  • Have been bosting for 2 years
  • Most normal boost is from Bronze -> Silver/Gold
  • In condition to boosting, I've also coached semi-pro teams

As stated, I mosly see low elo people wanting to get boosted because of bragging rights or to catch up to friends etc. but these people (low elo) do alot of the same mistakes, so I thought I would create a thread where I would state them and say why it's a mistake.

First Mistake: Champion Choice
This, this tilt me so hard. When boosting I often see people, who choose their champion because they had a few good experience with it. As an example right now: Twitch Jungle.
Twitch jungle was viable at some point, because of the changes to the jungle and jungle items, but since then the meta has changed alot. Twitch jungle can be done in certain situations, but the problem with it is that it is easely abused. As an example, right now a Lee Sin / Graves main in the jungle with the same experience as the twitch jungle main, would win the majority of the games - simply because they are in a stronger state.

Second mistake: Champ select
In general (if you're not a one trick) people in higher elo, pick champs that fit the team composition to increase the chance of winning.
People in low elo pick to win lane - which can be fine IF you know how to snowball sidelanes, which you dont otherwise you would be higher than bronze/silver. A good example is the lullu support right now, who is very popular - one of the reasons is that it counters Rengar.
Be smart - pick a comfort champion that benefits the rest of the team.

Third mistake: Overconfidence
Believe it or not, that shitty toplaner that went 0/9/2 has around the same win percentage as you, the godlike midlaner. Instead of tilting, and critique your idiotic toplaner focus on your own gameplay. If you die in lane, it's not your junglers fault - it's yours. There is a reason for that when we teach LoL, we use VODS of past games.

Fourth Mistake: Gameplay
You don't know how to play League. Yes, you know the mechanics of certain champions - but you dont know what the smart thing is to do.
The best way to improve is watch your own VODS and look at VODS from people from high elo. Look at these points: CS, Overextending, Rotations and Warding. These four things will help you improve alot. If you're a jungle main look at this as well: Warding and Junglepathing.

Fifth Mistake: Learn to optimize Runes/Items
Yasou, Zed, Yi, Riven, Fizz, Darius and Camille is popular picks in low elo, but why? Because you can steamroll with those champs if you get ahead, but low elo people think that the only way to geat ahead is to use the same recipe over and over again. Pick items/runes after the situation - learn from the pro's and what they do (they know the Meta).

Example: I was teaching a fizz main who was up against a Zed in the midlane, first game he goes Doran - Morello - Abyssal - Voidstaff - Rabandons. At this point Zed could almost oneshot him and he was 4/10/2.
I tried to explain to him that he should go Seekers armgaurd first and optimize his runes (he was running scaling health instead of armor) when playing against AD champions.

Next time he ran into a Zed, he went with the new runes and Seeker's into Morello. Zed went straight into a standard AD item (cant remember which), but with no MR. Fizz's jungler went mid and Fizz got a kill. After Morello he bought Zonya's - at this point Zed would die 1 vs 1 against Fizz, which ment he could splitpush to victory.

I hope someone can be inspired by this, and change the way they play the game and improve🎉

A small tip:
Almost always follow meta. The reason why it's meta is because that is the most optimize way to play right now.
Good guide. Watching your own gameplay isn't the best for low elo players in my opinion. They often don't know what to do anyway and if they watch their own gameplay, they think x is the right thing to do because it worked in x situation, then they keep doing it but, it's actually the wrong thing to do. You're also able to reach high diamond with only two runepages, so I don't think runes matter too much, as long as you know matchups. I also think, that picking full ad, ap or other champions that don't fit the comp don't matter too much, since it's still low elo and people don't know how to punish properly. Rather than playing many champions, you should focus only on a few and keep playing them consistently until you get so good at the champion, that you don't need to learn the champion anymore, so you can focus on learning the game.
I agree with some of your points, but saying not to watch your own games is not right.
Even if you dont know what you're doing wrong, you can always improve on small stuff when rewatching (roaming, cs and missed opportunities).

When it come to runes, i see alot of people who goes full AS on yi for an example in the jungle. Without armor or MR.
So, that is what i mean with Runes also.

When it comes to champs, i agree that you should only master a few - but it's good to learn utility champs instead of only snowballing champs.
I would say it better to learn gameplay earlie than master 20 champs. If your champpool is 5 champs on a decent level, start looking on how to take strategic advantages instead of kills only.
OP knows what he's talking about. Good tips.
