Honestly going there to give food ain't that bad. And this quest isn't. The only cancerous part are the agility obstacle you have to go twice. The whole puzzle takes what... 30 minutes? So you could just have someone sitting there with a few pots (though I had extras at the end) and food, and trade him if needed. That's it.
