Maximum security

First of all, I know I posted this in the wrong section, just couldn't find one, that this topic would fit in. Please correct me.

So I want to tell the media something, but I feel like I haven't taken the correct security measures.

This is what I've done so far:

1. Bought a MacBook, through some guy on an .onion site (Scammed. Sent me a macbook from like 2011 of something)

2. Then I spent a day installing Tails on the damn thing, since it would always boot to grub.

3. Drove to a random cafeteria about 3km away. Opened my laptop, launched Tor..

But then I stopped, I still didn't feel safe. My face was exposed to security cameras.

I feel like I'm missing something. I can't believe I'm actually considering doing this, but I'd like to hear other peoples opinion.

Thanks in advance
Depends how you are contacting them, how does the service keep logs? Does it have strong encryption when sending information? Has it ever been breached before?
Can it be linked to you in any way?
Is the incident you are discussing local to your area?
MAC Spoofing? In-case anything like the public router logs addresses.
Perhaps hire a car so the CCTV doesn't pick up your real one?
You should probably hang in your car, use the WiFi from outside if you are worried about cameras.

Just some thoughts off the top of my head. It all depends on how serious the matter is, and who would be interested in this information.

You could also do with not posting a thread about it under your account (that probably has your real IP address logged) on a public forum.

Anyway, good luck with this, stay safe and all. 🤝
if you're just trying to email your local newsroom, then i think you're going overboard already lmao. the media are not a very bright group of people, all they can do is overdramaticize events and tell their opinions while playing them off as facts. if you use tor they already think you are part of the elite hacker group anonymous.

If you need to take the steps outlined in a previous post, you must be doing something very rude. If you want to be rude, you should know what you're doing.

Unless you're doing something highly illegal, nobody is going to care that you bought a stolen 2011 MacBook off the dark web. Just don't hand it in to Apple or an Apple retailer for repair (They keep records of all serials, and if the serial of the macbook you bought is reported stolen and you hand it in for service, you'll be in trouble) and you'll be fine... For now.

Other than that, using a VPN (paid with crypto, or some other anonymous way. Don't use a free one) and Tor, and keeping all your stuff encrypted should be good enough for most intents and purposes. And above all, don't be an idiot.

Edit:
Fixed accidental midsentence paste!
