My ram usage is constantly high

Hi, i am not sure when this happened but i started noticing it after i played around with my VM.

So abviously the VM eats up alot of ram but but sometime after i fixed it up i looked at process handler and saw that my Ram was at a ridicolous level. Whole of computer was at 7.9GB/8GB and i had only given my VM 4GB to use.

So i looked on my processes (not on my VM) and calculated that the total usage of my computer was about 1.5GB.

So i turn of my VM and sure enough it drops down 4GB (to 3.9GB).

But again nothing on my computer takes up that much Ram.

Looking closer at the Ram it says right now that 3,4/8GB is used and that
5.2/9GB is dedicated virtual memory (2.2GB cache stored).

So basically what i'm wondering is if the VM is somehow using my RAM even tho i've turned it off or do i have some virus of sort? Because it pretty much should be one or the other because i really can't find any reason to believe i'm using this much Ram.

Thanks!
Check your resource monitor and check what processes are using your RAM then post picture(s) here.
As you can see in the picture of all users the only user on system uses about 1GB
but in total something uses 5GBs.

(i cant have links in my posts so i removed the dot between imigur and com)

EDIT:

I located the problem to a couple of system files. In particular 3ware.sys is taking 0.7GB alone. I know this has nothing to do with VMS anymore so im just saying to anyone looking in here that i'm gonna ask for a fix somewhere else if i cant fix it.
if you are on windows you can manage your startup with the command "msconfig" it is a good way to stop services from loading at startup too
If you've "Powered off" your virtual machine, then there's no way it will be eating up RAM. It will be an external issue.
What hypervisor are you using?
