Redirect/Hyperlink @'s

It'd be neat if there was a button you could click which picked a social media of your choice and you could simply type the @ (which would be clickable).

(Example)
Sales Thread

"Today I'm listing @hackforums for sale."

instead, there's a button you could click next to where the current hyperlink button is and you select the social media and the word that the @ is, and it makes it clickable.

(so now)

"Today I'm listing @hackforums for sale."

Edit: Yes.. you could just use the hyperlink button but I think an unnecessary feature like this would promote social media discussion/sales/references on our site.

I don't see how this is beneficial for HF. And personally i dislike the whole @ thing on sites which are not social medias.

Why hyperlinks and embedded YouTube videos integrated in the message box? I get that's different but social media is just so big. It creates more discussion on social media things (which means more traffic and posts). It means users who create threads and write posts can include an @ with more ease.

idk, I mean it's not a huge feature and will most likely get denied but it's just a suggestion.
But YouTube is used because you can watch the video in the thread. There isn't a need for this man.
I think it'd be cool to be able to @ members of HF and they get a notification or something but this seems unnecessary to be honest. Maybe if it gets denied you could get someone to help you make a userscript.

That's been denied more times than you've posted.

The entire system is already done but I wanted to wait until the API is write (not just read only) so Omni likes it a little better.

It has been suggested and denied in the past but i'm finally glad that something like this is in the works of actually becoming a reality. Not going to lie..

Honestly this is a bad move to begin with. He denied this feature multiple times because it's simply not worth the extra server load, which probably means he won't be happy to see you did it anyway.

Then again, this quote is 7 years old, he may have changed his mind. (though I highly doubt it)

I know what you mean, I used a userscript once and it had some weird weird effect with the site. Omni was pretty mad but understanding at least. I'm not fucking w/ userscripts.
You said it yourself, this seems really unnecessary. If people really wanted to link their @ it takes a few seconds to do that manually. Adding a button for it seems like a waste of time. I don't see how it would promote anything really.
