Gift cards / Gift balance

It would be nice to add more gift options to the website other than "gift award".

I was thinking to have gift card which can be used in HF's marketplace only. BTC balance perhaps? Something like Amazon Gift Cards

For example I want to gift Minimalist $50, the only possible way right now to do that is asking him for his BTC address. Which kind of removes the "surprise" factor in it, and it is also kind of weird asking someone for BTC address just to give them a gift..

However, if you randomly see in top of your screen " Your HF balance is: XX ", that would be cool, and the surprise factor makes it even more entertaining

Benefits of this suggestion (In my opinion):

1- I think it will make HF much more fun and it will make the community a bit closer with each other.

2- It will add the surprising factor, as you never know if you login and randomly see that you received HF gift card because it was your birthday or something.

3- It will enhance the exchange market, as some users want to sell their balance

4- It will encourage creating nice threads. I think if you see a well made thread it will allow some users to give tips to good content/thread creators

5- It will make HF more unique, as I haven't seen this in any forum before

6- It will enhance and make the marketplace more active, as those gift cards will only be used in HF's marketplace

7- With a possible 1% processing fee, this can be an additional source of income to HF

PS: This is not a specific suggestion. This is just a general suggestion (to add more gift options) with an example mentioned above, but it could be anything else

Look at the gift award list for example https://hackforums.net/myawards.php?awid=71 We all were excited when gift award was added to the website, everyone was gifting each other the first few days (26/27/28 June 2013), but then it slowly died. Why? Because it is a one-time thing. Once you buy someone a gift, you can't do it again to the same person. So the point of this thread is to have something more recurring
So it would pretty much be a wallet that hold funds for ever user?

Personally, I don't see an actual reason to implant this. Also, it would be very difficult.

Found this thread (It can be related in some ways):

... / Suggestions and Ideas / Hackforums Online Wallet

Where it got this as a answer:

Quote:Great, now I can get involved in deals and get into the same boat with Ross Ulbricht. No thanks, pretty sure I'll pass on being a middle-man in transaction here.

Quote:I would be nice but I just think of risk like HackForums getting hacked and they stealing all the BTC and everyone blaming Omni or something like this would be horrible for HF.

And that too.

Completely different idea, with completely different purpose.

The purpose for that suggestion was to avoid scams and chargebacks, and turning hackforum into an actual payment system. ( OP suggested to replace Paypal as a whole )

My suggestion is way more simpler than that.. It is simply adding more "gift options" to the site, and I gave an example to that in OP and how that could benefit HF, it could be any other thing though

Also, it wouldn't be something big & serious like depositing/sending $1000 or anything like that.. It will be something fun like $5-$10, something friends can do with each other. Non-related to scams, chargebacks, escrow services or deal-disputes

My bad. What I was thinking about was purely the part about HF holding money.
That would be a really good idea, I mean it would be great to see that someone has gifted you an amount of $ that you could only spend on HF.

Such as buying a sticking with your gift balance or an award or something.

I can imagine that there would be some down sides to it aswell tho.
This seems like a pretty cool idea, however there are bound to be some people that will try to abuse the system and with the amount of people on HF this system would mean a hell of a lot more work for omni, so I doubt he will implement it unless he has some really good personal gains from it or sees a huge demand for this from users

Why you wanna gift 50$ to Minimilist? Why not me? You guys are racist af!
I like the idea but I don't think this will ever be implented. It's going to bring chaos when for example accounts are closed/banned and still have a balance.

There isn't anything wrong with just PM'ing Minimalist or anyone for their BTC address anyway.

Many members that have donated hundreds & thousands for awards/stickies have had their account closed, how is this any different? Rules apply on this one as well, simple
Seems interesting. Would maybe provide more chance for refunds when scams happen aswell maybe. I'll stay tuned to see if maybe omni says anything about this.

There is no way to fix scams because people make their deals and decisions privately. This suggestion is not offering a solution for scams either, it is merely about adding more gift options to other HF members, with an example mentioned in OP
It would make things easier when a user asks for proof of funds too. Interesting idea, however it could easily make accounts targets. You better keep your account secure if you're going to publicly display how much money you have.

Are you suggesting the ability of one user to donate in another's name, or funds that can actually be used by the recipient?
Don't wait.
This has been denied a couple times
