I don't get Kimi no Na wa / Your Name

Warning: May have spoilers in this thread

I just finished watching kimi no na wa, it was a nice movie but I don't understand why it's so popular.
My friend and several people I know have told me they cried watching it but I didn't at all. Like I didn't feel sad at all.
They finally met up 8 years later in Tokyo. It was a pretty story but I still don't understand why it's popular to the point of being number 1 on MAL.
Don't feel like there was anything special.
After all the hype I've been hearing I thought it would be so amazing and that it'd break my heart but I was disappointed.
Unless I'm missing something? Can anyone explain to me please?
No you're not missing anything.
I don't think its amazing either, I gave it an 8 purely off the amazing animation and decent characters for a movie.
Don't worry I feel pretty much the same way as you & had a few issues with how the story played out, plus I thought the ending was meh.
(it definitely doesn't deserve the #1 MAL spot.)
It's an anime so dumbed down that normies can even understand it

As for the story behind it, couldn't really tell you since I haven't watched it. But I've definitely seen two sides of it. Those who liked it and those who thought it was just overhyped (that can be said about many series). I wonder what category I'll fall under.

Yeah I have to admit, the art was amazing. The mountain scene was very creative.
Number one selling of anything always hits the bullseye in the most powerful segment: emotional attachment. That's really the only explanation necessary. That being said I did enjoy the film.

TSUNDERE YOU HAVEN"T WATCHED IT YET? oml.

but yeah i really liked it personally i'd give it a 10, mainly cause of animation and the twist
Everyone has different taste and opinions, that's what happened.
Made me cry so goes in my top 10, I hate all romance ending and this I hate just as much. The art was eh I have no idea the hype over the art, story was decent and ending was trash.

Just like attack on titan is over hyped and loved by millions even with the broken plot, shit art and no story.
I seen it too, and it didn't make me feel sad/cry. Same goes for Angel Beats and Clannad. Code Geass R2 did a better job ;(
I enjoy almost all Makoto Shinkai movies and this one was no different.
But best of all time? Not even close in my opinion.
For the glory of humanity
I liked it due to just the way the story played out, I didn't cry but I thought the ending was adorable
So basically a bunch of non weaboo normies watched it so it got rank 1.
I liked it and I cried as well.

I'm curious as to which scene gave you feels.
