Ethereum

The Road to Mining Success

Hey guys,

Finally built my rig, took a few days but now I'm sure I could do it in a far more timely manner.
Still need to buy 2x more 1060s

Dual mining:
Ethereum ~85-95mh/s -- Dwarfpool
SiaCoin ~850-950mh/s -- SiaMining
~$20 USD per day.

Electricity:
n/a, solar panels.

My Setup:
- Old 750gb harddrive, windows 10
- Old 8gb ddr4 ram
- 4x MSI GAMING GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5
- EVGA GC 1000W
- MSI Enthuastic Gaming Intel Z170A
- Intel Pentium Processor G4400
- 4x PCIE Risers
- Old monitors/keyboards.
-$37 in aluminum corners + wood for frame.
---------------------------------------------------------------
~$1,100-1,200 for all @ 70% Amazon Gift Card rate.
*Note: I did buy higher-end 1060 GPUs (6GB MSI compared to plain 3GB) + MOBO (MSI) which could cut costs ~$200.

Spoiler (Click to View)

I'm thinking about making a VERY detailed youtube series on how to set these up and which products to use -- as well as my rationale for choosing 1060s over other brand cards such at the rx 480s. From purchasing, constructing, wiring, programs, to profits. Do you think this is a good idea?

I'll also gladly answer any mining questions here 😝

I personally don't mine any cryptos and would like to know how much $$ would be a good amount to start off with and how much time would it take to break even?
Is your intensity low?
I get that much mh/s with one 1060.

I purchased the current rig for $1,000 USD, and therefore my ROI at current rate is 50 days. How so cheap? Amazon Gift Cards @ 70% cut costs dramatically. 😁

What do you mean? Overclocking?

In merlin, you can set your intensity lower so it uses less power and mines slower.

For which coin are you talking about? What hashrate are you getting on your 1060s?
I'm using Claymore Dual Miner.

I still think the 580 is better :p better hashrate. Dont know about the energy consumption tho. Nice build. The roi isnt so bad too
i would love to start mining but sadly cant yet :)

hope i can have such a nice rig in 2.5 years

I wish I could get my hand on some 580s/480s...
However, I'd like to rebut that if the price of ALL altcoins were to plummet tomorrow, the price of 1060s wouldn't crash and flood the market unlike the AMD series. Therefore, I have my safe escape route in case of an issue in the market 😏

You can do it, it's not that much money! Start now, I believe in the cryptocurrencies and will hold them for further profits. The GPUs will probably become obsolete before they die, so run it on your PC when you aren't using it and grow your own farm!

Which one do u have? It looks lile the MSI one. Do u have the 3gb or 6gb version?

6GB all the way -- just in case the DAGs don't like to load which I've heard may become a problem. Costs more but it's easier to resell than plain 1060s.

Could you by any chance link us the things you've bought for this setup?

Interesting thread, hope you'll update it often.

Also, with todays Siacoin price, how long would it take to earn it back, if I had the exact same setup as you, and paying $0.05 / kWh?

I'm in Norway, so I'd have to pay 30% more in fees etc, so 100% of the price on amazon if I'd purchase amazon giftcards. 🤝

Looks like a TON of work, but $20 a day is very nice. How much did you pay for everything, and I hope you have all the receipts etc saved so you can write it off as a expense

Check out cryptocompare mining calculators, they will do it for you and are very accurate!

~$1,100 USD. All receipts are on Amazon, but I don't really need to use them for write-offs since I'm a college student living with my parents.
