I have 2 projects I am trying to combine......

Using VS 2017, how do I add 1 to the other...

project 1 = abc
project 2 = xyz

I have tried right clicking on the abc solution > add > existing project > project .sln of xyz

When I build solution abc and test on a VM I get an exception "can't locate xyz project".

I feel it's probably something I'm overlooking but any advice is helpful.

You should add the csproj or vbproj of xyz not the sln

Solution is the container, add the project of one into the solution of the other.
