Greetings,
Recently, a friend of mine fell off his ghetto outside stair case and tore chunks of skin from his arms and legs; nasty. Hospital. So I thought I would make some improvements to their setup. We're using spare lumber here. So cheapest route possible.
They use it to go from the driveway (grey w/ curved lip) down to their work area (door). So currently, they use these heavy railroad ties* with only rebar to hold them up on a 38 degree angle. Surprised that hasn't moved. There is no deck. That is what I'm working on. It's tricky given the hill and irl, its gravel and slippery as fuck. So I wanted to add a handrail just to keep them from spilling over the side. But one feature request I got was to make a removable handrail encase they need to move heavy equipment etc up and down the stairs. (That fall would be even worse! 🤣)
That is what I'm stuck and pondering over atm and can't really find the best solution. I was thinking the wood rail there, some hinges, and the 45 degree board (blue highlight) with THIS to hold it up on one side. I don't know how to brace the side nearest the door. Nothing there. That is a lot of weight for hinges. Perhaps just add some 2x4's to the bottom and slot them into metal brackets? Like you would pick it up and remove it... There are also flanges and pipe. but the cost and accessibility to dismantle it seem poor.
*I take it all back 😶 🤦♂
