What do you Guys Think about "Gap Year"

wassup hf , i recently graduated Highschool & im now taking a year off or as said a "Gap Year" from college and i decided to do this so i could prepare myself & train for the next football season .

My parents weren't really cool wit the fact of me taking a year off cuz they said i will become lazy .

So im asking this question to see wat your guys experience was if you ever took a year off and how did it benefit you ? goor or bad ? and your input on it . 👍
You shouldn't have taken a gap year imo. your parents are right.

Well it gives you time to make a decision on what career path you want to pursue. Think of it this way, You pay so much money for a degree and halfway through your degree you realize that it's actually shit and you don't like it at all.

Get a job , apply for internships . See if you enjoy working with people etc.

You know you can take the classes you need overall to get them over with and while you're doing that you can be thinking of what career path you want to take.

I personally wouldn't have taken one - and didn't. I figured if I didn't go right after, I wouldn't want to at some other point, or it would be hard to get back into the swing of school. But it's ultimately your decision.

So are you saying that if someone is doing computer science and realizes they don't want to do it at all and decides to go into LAW , that is possible?🤦‍♂

The only underlying factor is your drive/motivation. If you're actually driven, you can easily take a year off which would be necessary to you if you deem so and perform better than going straight to school. Follow your heart, question your mind, and factor in advice from those who care about you.

Consider an internship or something that's productive while you're off so that way there's some sort of benefit to your academia at least.
i actually took took gaps years , one for my bachelors degree and another one while doing my masters , was great

I can understand where your parents are coming from if you are just going to sit at home for a year and do absolutely nothing you will get lazy.

Also OP, consider enrolling in an local community college and knock off some of the easiest pre-reqs there are. You're saving a lot of money, easily getting the credits that transfer and you pretty much have your off year. I'm talking about 3-6 credits per semester. 12 credits, a completed internship, and a year off is a great start. idk just spit balling.

I agree with this post. This would be the best route to take since you're getting a head start and saving money while you're at it.

Let's be honest OP you're either going to eat shit and stay at home or get a shit job and do that for a long time.

Oh well you got me here cause I'm speaking from the american system. So I have no idea what you had to go through.

Back when I finished high school my dad encouraged me to not take a year off. I listened, which turned out to be a good decision.
