Senior year of highschool I decided I wanted to be a welder. I busted ass all year. Summer came around and I made calls and made class and made some more fucking calls. Finally, I got a call telling me to come test for a company in Oklahoma. Passed my tested. Almost been here three months. Check out my bad ass truck! (not sponsored by mommy and daddy)
update:
I messaged the Business Management Director for one of the biggest construction contracting companies in the United States. He sent me his phone number and told me he wanted me to call him on my break. He told me he wants to pay for me to go to school to learn pipe welding and pay me for attending. Ill be making like $8 more dollars an hour and $60 more dollars perdiem!! Life is good.

You must be compensating for something there, buddy.

Its definitely not incredible gas mileage either. I plan on putting a flat bed on it and turning it into a mobile rig. Rough terrain, gotta have big tires. I'm not a truck guy either.

The only post in the bragging rights section that is worthy. Most the time it's kids flaunting the 2k they made once which will be gone in 2 weeks and they will be back to eating cheetos in mommys basement.
Congrats on long term income, you can grow from here too, hey maybe one day you can be the manager or own your own welding business. 🤝
I can't come out tonight, my Bic lighter don't light.
Right now I'm saving up emergency savings, then I will start aggressively paying off my 30k truck lmao. After that I'm saving up to buy a house in cash then I will start saving for equiptment. Debt free and ready to roll.

Congrats OP you made a great choice, there is a ton of money in welding. It was an option for me halfway through my senior year but instead I chose to be a equipment operator for reasons of me not being old enough to get a spot in any good welding schools... wasn't 18 when I made the decision. Honestly though I have no regrets I love running equipment but want a little more which is my I'm moving to cranes next season. The truck is sick I love rams especially the white ones lol I hope to buy one of my own but a 3500 dually with a mega cab. What kind of welding are you doing, you out there doing pipeline?? I heard those guys are making a killing but it's quite the sacrifice.

Sound like you got a plan, the emergency savings is #1 always have a good stash of cash as you never know what might happen (Truck needs repair etc)

Man I am so jealous of you if you get into running cranes man. They sleep all damn day and make good ass money. I didn't attend a welding school, just some votech classes. I am a structural welder. Right now I'm welding out a flange on a 6' pipe. There is a massive ass gap and I probably have around ~15 hours into it. Hope I get it down in 8 more hours or so tomorrow. I'm certified in stick and mig with this company, and one other. When I catch a lay off I'm going to learn how to tig weld pipe. Right now I get paid $24-4 and tig welders for my company make $28-8. Man I fucking love making money and long days!

Yea bro running crane is a good gig some literally bullshit and sleep in their cabs for hours until they get a pick... talk about easy fucking money but there is a ton of more responsibility and it all falls on the operator. The only thing that is kinda shitty is that when I do chose to go through that route is I'll have to start out as an oiler which is basically an apprentice that maintains the riggg which is also easy money but makes for long days because they don't do much as well and I'd have to do that for like 5 years. Is there a union for welding?? I've never heard of one but is there was that would make it all the more better imo

Dudeeeee talk about welding unions... my man there are boilermakers unions, sheet metal workers unions, iron worker unions, millwright unions, and local 798 the holy pipeline union. All of these are different aspects of construction but they all involve welding. The thing about unions is you do specifically what your job does. I may work as a ironworker, boilermaker, and fitter all in one day.

Rent - $440
Internet - $100
Truck - $550
Utilities $100
Food - $300
Diesel - $200
Give or take some. I like to play a game called see how many days I can go without spending money. It's fun.

Yea I'm familiar with some of the unions you mentioned mostly iron workers and IUOE but I wasn't sure there was a welding union probably because they aren't too big idk?? Have you considered joining a union? They are great for anyone who starts young because you will have shit made for you by the time it comes to retire. I'm with Local 3 in the US and I can't imagine having to work nonunion with shitty wages and no benefits only thing bad is the political aspect but that's everywhere really I just stay out of it.
Not too big on unions bc if I want to quit my job I just say "load my box" and they take my shit to my truck and I take off as much time as I want. Call back when I want to work again.

Can only speak for my union but if your a journeyman you can roll ur shit up any time u want and take as much time off as u want which is how it should be no one or even a union should be allowed to tell u that u have to be working when they need u. All I'm saying though is it would be something great to look into ((imo)
Awesome job man, hopefully everything works out for you at the end!
