Conventional Jobs vs "Dream Jobs"

So I have a question for everybody...

What are your guys' thoughts on "conventional" 9-5 jobs where you usually work hard and although the pay isn't always the best, there are usually benefits, and the pay is solid/reliable. (Yes I understand that this isn't even a guarantee nowadays in many places, but still).

Personally I'll be straight with you guys - I've always been a big dreamer. No matter if it is cliche, I've always wanted to do something big and try to stand out in this dense world of ours. I have that entrepreneurial and ambitious mindset that tells me to take risks and try to get to the top.

A quote that I absolutely love is "an entrepreneur would work 80 hours a week in order to avoid working 40 hours a week"... I couldn't agree more. With that being said I'm also not just talking about entrepreneurs in this sense. Anybody who has ever wanted to be a youtuber, social media personality, actor, singer, you name it. Is it worth the risk? Should the world and schools not be so damn against creativity? Should they stop discouraging people to follow their dreams and ambitions?

I think I got my personal opinion across, but I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks.
Everyone has a different mindset and goals.

Your view is much like mine, from what I envisioned when I was younger, I live out today.

Schooling will always seek to satisfy the mass. When it comes to striving for am ambitious lifestyle, it is down to YOU and YOU ONLY.

Always remember that.

My ENTIRE life people gave me weird faces, doubted me and bullied me for what I wanted to achieve. If you want to live like the 1% you will need to work like the 1%.

No matter what happened in my life, I still had my vision and worked towards it. If you have that strong visual sense of what you want to achieve, you can do it.

See it in your mind, hold it in your hands.

I strongly admire your outlook. Too many people nowadays are trying to conform to fit in with the masses and that just is not for me. If all else fails, my ambition and drive to not be like the rest will motivate me to accomplish all of these goals and "dreams" per say that I have..
In the end, it will all boil down to one thing: priorities.

No matter how much you want to "live the life" and have that "dream job", sometimes circumstances would force you to work a 9-5 dead-end job just so you can put food on the table, pay the bills, and make ends meet.

Obviously, you'd only end up like that if you keep on making the wrong calls in life. If you start being responsible and putting your sh*t together at an early age, regardless of difficulty, you'd probably be just fine.
Made me think of the "AI singularity", sure it might take lot's of peoples jobs but if governments are prepared, it could bring forth a golden age in not only science but creative subjects aswell with all these people able to dedicate their time too endeavours they believe in.

I completely hear what you're saying, sometimes when getting started you have to be careful about following your dreams until you have enough of a cushion or safety net to fall back onto in case things were to go south.

I don't think I'm familiar with AI singularity. Would definitely be interested in learning and hearing more from you. Thanks for your opinion.

EDIT: Just looked up AI singularity and I've definitely heard of that before but I would definitely love to hear more from you about it... I see what you're saying.

Exactly.

A lot of people commit the mistake of just following their passion, blindly, no matter what. Most of them end up hating what they actually set out to to do just because reality won't align with their expectations. You simply don't just make the leap of faith without backup plans. That's just plain stupidity.

The tricky part is actually balancing between living the dream and making a living out of it.

Stark Industries isn't a real company...

The way I have always thought about it was that if a large percentage of the population are "put out of work" by AI then it could obviously be a bad thing. But that is why people like stephen hawking, elon musk etc.. are always saying governments should be preparing for once it begins to happen. Some people are under the impression that a universal income could be a way to go while also taxing businesses for the use of AI as a way to fund this.
I'm no expert on the matter but the idea behind it intrigues me. Sure with a universal income where people don't HAVE to work we could see a large number of people abusing this system and doing nothing with their time and simply living life of the system, but the way I think about it is that people would have alot more freedom in terms of what they do and also could be free to apply themselves to education and(going back to your point) creative subjects.
Obviously this could be a decent bit in the future but if AI is doing all the menial tasks then people who may struggle with education simply because it takes them longer to comprehend/understand things would be free to have the extra time they need because they do not have to worry about working to pay for their housing/utilities because these necessities would be covered.

Obviously there are alot of things that could stand in the way of this somewhat utopian future, but it's a nice thought I had while baked one night and reading about this shit.

Definitely interesting I'll give you that. I don't know about the universal income idea - I'm trying to think of a time in history where anything relatively similar to this worked or was put into play and I just can't think of anything. With all being said though, I agree with the popular opinion that creativity is possible once life's necessities are recognized and managed (ie: Food, water, housing, etc), so I do hear what you're saying. If AI where to take over these tasks and creativity was rewarded much more (something that machines can't have... yet), then creativity and following dreams would undoubtedly become more "Practical" in today's society.

Yeah it has yet to be seen whether it will be something that works. A few countries are currently testing the idea, Finland most notably. Whether it is effective or not, the fact is that plans have to be put in place or countries will risk large scale unemployment/poverty. In my mind universal basic income is a good start.
