For now I am not allowing remote avatars. That might change in the future but not for regular members. Upgraded members can use avatar uploads.

What's the point in bringing back remote avatars if it won't be for regular members when upgraded members have the ability to upload it?
It allows users to upload GIF avatars and ignore the filesize limit. 

Anyway, nice to see the gallery back. Novica's galleries are nice.

Remote avatars can also be used for ip loggers.

Yeah gotcha. 

IMO skip it. It isn't needed. Seen many upgraded users asking for it to return and it makes no sense unless their intentions are to abuse it.

Nice avatars, especially Novica's collection. One minor thing, some avatars in the Novica folder are not from Novica's collection.

If we are considering the aspect of IPloggers, would it be best to force image sites to be used like imgur -
Reasons being:
1. It removes Exif data automatically. Otherwise users may accidentally post their GPS location within meters of their home - and other personal information. Example of this.

2. Imgur and other particular sites can't be used for iploggers. Which is handy dandy. I think I heard about an issue a while back that someone was linking their site in their sig via image and it would prompt users to enter their password or something.

I'm sure there are other good reasons. I'm going to try your upload function and see what happens with exif.
Alright the HF upload for images removes exif - but i'm not sure if that's only on resizing. What if you upload an image the correct size with exif - will it still remove it?
