I've seen users who have changed their primary user group to the group they are apart so it doesn't just display the "HF l33t" icon. I can't for the life of me find where the option to change is at and I've looked in the Help Docs.

go t o user cp scroll down left side group memberships and then scroll down and select the group and set as default

FYI you are changing your “display group” and not your “primary group”. Primary groups include: Non-upgraded, L33t, Ub3r, Staff, Admin. All other groups are secondary groups. Display group is just what is displayed.
