Introduction:
I was beginning to see a lot of request for a userbar tutorial for GIMP, and I decided to make one for you guys. :D I know this is a little complicated, but it's my first graphics tutorial, so be nice. ;D I'm sorry for squishing the images together in step 9, but there is a 10 image limit. >.<
Requirements:
Making the Userbar:
Now that you have everything ready, we can get started. :D
1. First you'll want to open up the template in GIMP. Right click the template you saved and click edit in GIMP.
Spoiler (Click to View)
2.
Next, you'll want to go to your Text Tool and Change, and resize the font.
Change the font to "Kremlin Bolshevik", than change the font size to about 18 px. depending on how much text you're trying to fit in, and change the text color to #33
Now you'll want to type out your text. For the tutorial we're going to do "Barely." You'll also want to play around with the capitalization of the text to get a different form of each letter. Don't forget to drag it to where you want it to stay before the next step. :D

3.
Now we want to outline our text. So while your text is still selected, click on the "Path from Text" button in your tool box. Than click select in the top toolbar, and click "From Path", You should now see a an outline around your text. Click on select again, and press grow this time, in the dialog box, put what I have below.

4.
Now you'll want to zoom in, and click on the paintbucket tool, change the color to 989898, and click the area surrounding the text. If there are any leftover parts you would like highlighted, use the pencil tool and scale it down to 0.01, and manually highlight the parts you would like.
Spoiler (Click to View)
5. Next you have to find an icon. I perfer http://www.iconfinder.com/ because they have some really cool icons. Although you can also do a quick "Google" search.
Once you find an icon you like, save it as a .PNG. Than follow what I do in the picture below. Basically save it, open it in GIMP, scale it to 32 x 32 pixels, cut it, and copy it to your Userbar.
Spoiler (Click to View)
6. Now all you have to do is save it! :D Save it as a .PNG, and if you want, save another copy as a .XCF for editing later on. :D Here's our finished result:

I hope you liked it. If you have any extra questions please feel free to send me a PM or post here.
