RCMP allege Jordan Bloom earned about $247K from trafficking identity information

Quote:An Ontario man is accused of running a website infamous for owning and selling billions of stolen identities, including usernames and passwords.
Jordan Evan Bloom, 27, of Thornhill, made his first provincial court appearance in Toronto on Monday on several cybercrime charges.
After more than a year and a half of investigating, Staff Sgt. Maurizio Rosa, a member of the RCMP's national cybercrime investigative team, called Bloom the "middle man" between the dark web and the internet Canadians use every day.

Police allege Bloom bought illicitly obtained identity accounts from the dark web and sold access to them through his website LeakedSource.com. (The dark web or dark net is made up of secret sites that aren't accessible by common search engines and has acted as a haven for illegal sales.)

Officers said LeakedSource.com had a database of approximately three billion personal identity records and associated passwords that could be purchased for a small fee. Rosa said about half of those were usernames and passwords and were gleaned from well-publicized data leaks, like the Ashley Madison hacks.
Police believe Bloom is responsible for administering LeakedSource.com and say he earned about $247,000 from trafficking identity information.

RCMP began investigating when they learned LeakedSource.com was being hosted by servers located in Quebec.

The Canadian side of his website has been shut down since he was arrested Dec. 22, but police believe Russian servers are keeping the site active.

Rosa said the information of some Canadians was on the website and more Canadians could be at risk.

Bloom is charged with:
  • Trafficking in identity information.

  • Unauthorized use of a computer.

  • Mischief to data.

  • Possession of property obtained by crime.

The RCMP thanked Dutch police and the FBI for aiding their investigation.
Bloom is due back in court on Feb. 16.

I'm a bit surprised at his charges, running a site like leaked source isn't the worst kind of website somebody can operate and there should've been much more important things for them to investigate.

Nowadays? I'm just here for the nostalgia.
Literally just read about this.
was surprised to find out he was so close to me actually.

Edit:

Just so everyone knows. I am pretty sure the article is speaking about CyberGuard
He stole the entire database from DamienVC and others when Legends members originally started working on that project.

Come to think about it now, Bull loosing his shit and kicking me out of the group was the best thing he ever did for me, I got booted just before they started the LeakBase project and was not re-added until all the drama was over and done with.

No, Unauthorized use a computer in Canada is considered a hybrid offense.
Meaning it almost always ties in to other charges the accused got.

Unauthorized use of computer
342.1 (1) Everyone is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term of not more than 10 years, or is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction who, fraudulently and without colour of right,

(a) obtains, directly or indirectly, any computer service;
(b) by means of an electro-magnetic, acoustic, mechanical or other device, intercepts or causes to be intercepted, directly or indirectly, any function of a computer system;
© uses or causes to be used, directly or indirectly, a computer system with intent to commit an offence under paragraph (a) or (b) or under section 430 in relation to computer data or a computer system; or
(d) uses, possesses, traffics in or permits another person to have access to a computer password that would enable a person to commit an offence under paragraph (a), (b) or ©.

Those last 2 definitions alone make this charge understandable for his activities....

Frankly I do not know the full story, being Bull kicked me out of the group when all of that happened.
But to my knowledge Cyber took the entire database and started the site on his own screwing the other members. And simply registered his own domain.

Interesting.
Keeping in mind I really don't know the full story. what I know is proxy information from DamienVC, Raymond Reddington and others. Very possible I got the users confused.

No he was not in Legends group. However it appears to be the same database that was being worked off of, possible he bought it off CyberGuard or something along those lines.
