A bit of recent data that supports this proposition comes from a recent study done in the UK. The findings were that for a period from the early 1990’s to the early 2000’s, 90% of UK women practiced hypergamy. Hypergamy is a 15 cent (about 7 pence in GBPs) word for marrying up. The hypothesis in the study was; do women exhibit hypergamy, or not. You start with assuming not, and then disprove that. If they do not, then roughly 50% would marry up and 50% would marry down. During the period of the study 90% of UK women married men that made more money than they did, or had greater wealth. The 90% marrying up rate provides ample evidence that the women exhibit hypergamy behavior.

Marriage is a huge meme. People do it out of social pressure and because there is a huge industry that pushes the agenda of marriage being so important (you show how comitted you are blablabla). People end up paying 15-50k for one day of being the center of attention.

If you really love a woman and you have been together for 10 years +, then by all means do it. But most of those sub 30 yr old guys marrying a chick after 2-5 years are just not being smart, and will end up with a bad surprise one day, because lets be real, 80% of relationships have an expiration date. So even if 50% of marriages last, a lot of them end up being bad ones.

i like reading about marriage system in usa (me being from europe) and I find it hilarious how broken it is and why men dont put a stop to it
