How is website loaded without refreshing?

For example this site; https://coincheckup.com/coins/litecoin/charts

when you click on another tab, for example analysis or investment, link of the website in the browser changes, but the website does not refresh(or atleast it's not visible).

How is this done? Is this server-side implementation with javascript or how?
Standard ajax request then manually push to the window's history. It's a new thing and commonly paired with progress bars like this: https://github.com/rstacruz/nprogress
No need for me to repeat Orka, but yes. It's Ajax.

I use it on most sites I build and load the new page into a container. Looks much better than a standard white screen during loading.

That's built with angularJS as an SPA(Single page application), it's a whole different level of javascript that I definitely recommend learning. However, I would recommend you start with VueJS. The web/javascript has changed A WHOLE LOT, don't learn 8 year old techniques in 2018 if you're serious about this.
