Multiple Processes - Chrome/Firefox

Here's 2 small changes that you should check if you are having issues with either Chrome or Firefox relating to slow browser and/or multiple processes per browser instance.

Google Chrome
Chrome opens a process for every tab, extension & addon once you open the Chrome browser.

Two Ways to stop this.

  1.   Turn Off Chrome Background Processes
Select “Menu”  > “Settings” > “Show advanced settings…”
Uncheck “Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed” option in the “System” section.

  2.   End Processes via Google Task Manager
With Google Chrome open, press “Shift” + “Esc.“
The Google Chrome Task Manager should appear
Click process to end, then click "end process"

Firefox

Firefox has a feature that creates a process for each tab called "Multi-Processing" - Same as Chrome.

In Firefox, type "about:config" in your address bar.
         In search box, type "browser.tabs.remote.autostart".
         Toggle from "True" to "False".
         Restart browser.

There may still be more than 1 process on either of these afterwards, but that happens regardless.
I hope this helps a little.
Question: You mentioned this is a possible solution if Chrome slows your PC down. Would disabling multiple processes or at least elimiating a bunch of them with this method save RAM or? I ask because Chrome is known to use a lot of RAM but generally it doesn't/shouldn't use a lot of processing power.

Yeah, it might slow down a little. It all depends. If you multitask on your pc and use lots of tabs at once, you may notice. Ever since I did this fix it's run fine for me.
