How to install Nessus in Windows 10? (problem)

EDIT: I could solve it, there's literally no workaround, but what I had to do is install Nmap with NCap from the beggining, and then install Nessus. It seems that Nessus uses an old library of WinpCap, so Nmap detects it's obsolete and delete it, to install NCap instead. All I had to do is delete an old folder that was of WinpCap, and then Nessus didn't detect that version anymore. Now both of them are working nice in Win10. Next steps: start using Kali!

Thanks everyone!

Well, first of all, hello, this will be my first post, and I hope is not redundant. I have to say before I wrote anything, I searched plenty in Google, and also I used the "Search" function in this forum to find related threads to help me. But I couldn't understand any possible path. I'm not saying the solution is not there, it's just that I cannot comprehend it.

So, I'm trying to start in the hacking world, and I'm trying to use tools like Nessus to hack for vulnerabilities on ports. The thing is, moments before I did this, I installed NMap + WinpCap. But, in that moment, it didn't work, so after some research I uninstalled WinpCap and installed NCap (provided by Nmap). This fixed it.

Now, I'm trying to install Nessus as well, but it turns out there seems to be some kind of error in the middle of the installation, and the installation wizard just remove all the files installed at that moment, and closes. Searching around I found a few posts that address WinpCAP compatibility problem.

So here goes my question: Is there any workaround for this kind of problem? I really don't want to uninstall NCap since it's working so far so good with NMap.

Nevertheless, thanks a lot for your help people.

Windows isn't really a system that is popular for using hacking tools. I'd recommend you look at Linux and either install the tools there or use a Live version of Kali that is built specifically for Penetration Testing in mind.
I sometimes come around and poke a few threads before leaving for a few months again.

I understand. The intention of my post was to know if there was a workaround, so I can keep with my OS. You see, because I'm just starting, it's more user-friendly for me to keep the OS while I learn key concepts like "protocols" or "ip", "dns" and so on.
I used other tools like NMap and Wireshark.

Anyway, I completely agree with you, I'll have to start using Kali, but I'm following this tutorial and I was great until this problem!

I'll start using Kali as soon as possible.

You can do all of that by using Linux, you can build your own system with the tools you need straight out of the box and working as intended and learn the Operating System as you go. You're doing great by learning Networking first aswell.

Thank you! I found some great begginer stuff surfing this forum, so I'm 100% motivated! 🎉
Installing Nessus in a Kali/Debian virtual machine would be the best option. The installation process is painless, you just have to download the deb package, install it with:

Code
dpkg --install <package-name>.deb

Nessus will be listening on port 8834 if I remember correctly, navigate to it with a browser after you've installed it and you're done. Just set the VirtualBox/VMWare Network Adapter to bridged.

I've tried installing nmap and the Metasploit Framework on Windows a while ago out of curiosity too, it wasn't a great experience tbh.

Will do! thanks a lot for the shortcut, this will surely save me a lot of research time. I've never installed a Linux distribution, so this is helpful! Thanks! 🤝
Check out pentestbox.org I haven't tested it yet, but it looks neat.

Just checked out that page and it seems pretty awesome, I'm sure once I'm done learning the basics I could experiment a little bit in that environment.
Thank you!
This issue appears to have been solved by changing a driver name. You should be able to first install Nessus (delete current Nmap installation) so that WinPcap is installed. Then download NMAP and make the modifications as suggested by the following thread: https://github.com/nmap/nmap/issues/135

I hope that helps.

Vulnhub is also a great website to try your skills on Vulnerable Machines.

I just edited my first comment! I was able to solve this, too bad I saw your comment late!
Anyway thank you for your help, it's always good to have this information available.  🤝
