Tweepy - Detect New Tweets Only

Trying to google for this but im not getting the result I want. I want Tweepy to check for a new tweet by a specific user and, if there is a new tweet by the user, it does an action. The thing is, I only want to check if there are new tweets, not including replies to other users. Sadly, most code examples does include replies. How would I go on to only detect new tweets?

Also, what would be the best way to see only new tweets and not scan for old ones?
you can see all info about a tweet with the code below:
Code
public_tweets = api.home_timeline()
print(public_tweets[0])

https://developer.twitter.com/en/docs/tw...eet-object

check the attributes:
in_reply_*
