Is it worth upgrading from Pascal to Volta for 1080p gaming?

Is it worth upgrading from a GTX 1080 to the next-gen Volta equivalent for gaming at 1920x1080?
Buying anything bigger than a 580 for 1080p 60fps was a retarded thing to do.

Buying a 2080 will be pointless unless your doing higher res gaming. You don't need 468x MSAA.

People upgrading to a 580 from a 560 for 1080p 60fps
"Oh boy I can turn on stupid lighting effects"

People upgrading to a 580 from a 560 for 1080p 144fps
"Oh nice I can run games at 100+ FPS"

Changing from a 1060 to 1080 or a 580 to vega for 1080p
"OH BOY I CAN CRANK UP MSAA TO MAX"

People upgrading to Vega 56 from the 580 for 1440p+
"Oh boy I can turn up stupid lightning effects"

People upgrading to Vega 56 from the 580 for 1440p+ 144hz
"Oh wow this looks great & performs well."
What was possible to max out at 1080p 5-7 years ago with the best hardware at the time, is not possible to max out current games at 1080p.
I don't think it'll be necessary or even worth it for quite a while.
