My account got hacked.

Idk if this is the right forum to post or not.

I just got an email saying I have a new PM on this forum. I haven't used this forum in ages. Turns out someone else was using my account to sell stuff.
I have sent a PM to anyone who messaged "me" warning them already.

Curious though, how can this happen? I used a password containing 15 chars. lowercase, uppercase, numbers. Neither username nor password is in use on any other website or forum. Any explanations?

Best regards.

Is it allowed to post the IP of the guy? If not, LMK and I'll take it out. Here it is though:

Misc. Information for '62.1.252.210'
Host Name: 62.1.252.210.dsl.dyn.forthnet.gr

I highly doubt this. I'm extremely paranoid, plus on linux. I have not entered this password (nor this username) in over two years ANYWHERE.

Just because you haven't used this password in over 2 years it means nothing. Database breaches can take years to come out although exploited many years ago, tons of credentials remain the same.

Chances are you were phished or you entered the password online more than 2 years ago and someone found this entry in a database extraction.
Since you take your security very seriously, a RAT, keylogger or phising link is very unlikely indeed.

Maybe a leaked database with MD5 hash or no hash? This way you could have a 30 chars password and they would still easily be able to login on your account.
I'm new to this forum so I don't know how secure their system is.

Another possibility is that long inactive accounts will get used by admins as bots. I'm not sure about this either but I know this happened on other forums.

Someone could also have hacked the server two years ago and got login details. In that case you were just unlucky and there's almost nothing you can do to prevent this.

Well this site had a major breach in 2011. Kinda says it all.
You’ll get warned for posting the IP mate
All the older HF accounts were hacked, I saw the leaked info on databases.today. It's possible you got hacked by someone who downloaded the leaked data.
