Eiffel Tower Now Has Bulletproof Glass Walls To Protect Against Terror Attacks

https://www.npr.org/2018/06/15/620268193...or-attacks

Quote:The Eiffel Tower is being retrofitted with bulletproof glass, the latest measure to protect the Paris site and visitors from potential terrorist attacks.

The panels are nearly 10 feet high and more than 2 inches thick. They will bookend the monument at its north and south ends, running parallel to the Seine River and Avenue Gustave-Eiffel. At the east and west sides, metal fencing has been installed to help stop any vehicles that try to ram into the grounds.

Plans for an enclosure to protect the 129-year-old tower were announced last year. The new perimeter is replacing temporary barriers set up in 2016, following a series of terrorist attacks that put France on high alert.

looks gnarly
It's really sad that this is necessary but that's the way the world is now. It truly has become as different place after 2001. Hopefully there are changes for the better over the next decade.
