I don't know who can answer this question, but when MyBB does roll out the new 1.9.xx version, is Hack Forums going to upgrade to that new version?
I am aware of the fact that a lot of the themes will not work with the new 1.9.xx version. Most of the plugins should work, though.
Just wondering about this.

Probably not since HF just upgraded.

I don't think it will be necessary right away.
If we create our own mobile responsive theme first I'm going to likely not upgrade to 1.9x.
The upgrade process for MyBB has become a burden.

I know all about the upgrade process.
It's a necessary evil... even if it's not perfect... like the 1.8.16 fiasco.
I've been informed by the person who did the customized theme for my website that he will be converting all of his themes over to be 1.9.xx compatible.
We shall see how well that goes.

Definitely a lengthy process, good luck 🤝
Seems like MyBB cannot even get on track and in my opinion they just don't seem to be dedicated anymore like they were in the past to the project. 2.0 was put on hold honestly I wouldn't doubt it if 1.9 takes another year or they come up with some excuse to put it on hold as well.
Probably best if Omniscient and the developers here continue with the 1.8 series and patch it and improve it themselves.

Would rather see a new Forum software than a MyBB 1.9/2.0. XenForo would be a great option.

I'll throw this in here and say that NodeBB has a place to be considered as well:
https://github.com/NodeBB/NodeBB
HF runs on PHP though so I'm sure converting to anything such as Node.js wouldn't be necessary.
MyBB is a pretty nostalgic forum software though, almost anyone can get used to it.

Unless you own and run a forum based website like Omniscient and I do, it's far more complex than what you have described.
It's not as easy as it looks.
Switching from one forum software to different forum software is a nightmare of its own.
Do you recall the nightmare that Omniscient went through when he finally upgraded from MyBB 1.6.xx to 1.8.xx? Yea... enough said.
I have been running the 1.9.xx on my development website and it's pretty good.
Sure, because it's in the Alpha/Beta stage, there are a lot of errors, but aside from that MyBB 1.9.xx has great potential for the future.

How do you know the hurdles of the upgrade that HF went through? 🤮 😈

Omniscient went on MyBB.com and pretty much everyone knew about it at that time.
It's not a secret... duh. 😑

I'm not certain of the date, sometime last autumn, I think.

End of october 2017 it was.
Nowadays? I'm just here for the nostalgia.
