I've always been interested to hear why people listen to certain types of music. Some of us have one genre that we stand by and some like a variety for a number of different reasons.
Some people even enjoy different sub-genres for different reasons. The possibilities are endless.
I am just a big music fan in general and I always find myself listening to several different genres on a daily basis.
I listen to metal when I want something high energy, such as when I'm in the gym or I'm driving.
I listen to blues when I'm looking to feel some groove and relax.
I listen to jazz when I'm looking to explore new/outlandish musical concepts.
I listen to classical when I'm studying or winding down at the end of the day.
I listen to classic rock for a variety of reasons - to feel nostalgic since it's when I grew up on, to be pumped up if its a high energy song, to hear meaningful lyrics, or just to rock out.
I listen to hip-hop if I'm at a party or driving with friends.
I listen to alt/folk when I'm in my feelings and need to think.
What about you? What types of music are you listening to, and for what reasons?

I listen to RnB a lot. And people ask me if I just broke up with my GF or something cus I'm listening to Usher, Chris Brown, T-Pain etc. but nah, I really just like the deep, slow, smooth sex music that gets to your soul and makes you vibe to it. Other than that I hear rap when at the gym cus it makes me feel myself.

I’ll take a different approach and say; I love orchestra music. It’s very open by not having vocals and sparks different emotions with myself and others.

Future House, Deep House, Big room house. I listen too this, because I produce it and mix it. This is the ONLY genre I will listen too.
I listen to whatever mood i'm feeling at that specific time. Like if I workout I listen to a lot of metal or ignorant trap. If I'm just chillen I'll throw on some old school hip hop or smooth alternative, like jazzy coffee house music.
I don't know there's a lot of different variables for different people when it comes to this. Some people may like the way it makes them feel or are trying to portray an image of something their not. Some people just love music and can listen to whatever.
All I know is it's something that everyone can bond over. (or argue about too unfortunetly) :P
I like a lot of uplifting music (or euphoria). Apparently we like the stuff we do because it recreates emotions and feelings that we want to feel.
There is a course on music that i want to do but can't remember my coursera login to do it but it explains the psychology of music, i think it'd be interesting.
It depends on where imm at and what im doing.
Ever since I upgraded my SXM package to include streaming, I pretty much listen to SXM pretty much everywhere. When Im not listening to SXM, Im listening to something off YouTube.
