Any chance of fixing this laptop [water damage]

Ok HF, so I have a laptop estimated worth around £1000-ish when bought new around 2 years ago, anyways last year wine was spilt on the laptop while it was on, it instantly turned itself off.

So we tried everything people recommend with water damage ie leave off and put in box of rice and hope it dries up without any permanent damage.

Okay so we left it a month and tried turning it on, the light came on however no display, so decided it's probably fucked and have left it in a corner for over a year and have not tried turning it on since, so just wondering is this laptop completely screwed or do you think that handing it into a repair store might be worth it? 🤝
What model is the laptop? ...

In order to fix it, you need to dissect the laptop and clean off all of the goo with 90%+ alochol. Big side note, there is a difference between using the rice method to absorb moisture between plain water and wine. Same as with soda with a lot of sticky sugar. You most likely short circuited something on the board, so you'd need an expert to find the faulty parts and possibly replace them. It could be a simple fix or overly complicated. You can clean it yourself however.

Did you try using an external display?
Like what datguy.dev said, try connecting to an external monitor (I'm assuming the laptop has HDMI out or something). If the screen was the only causality, you can either replace it or just keep using the laptop connected to an external monitor. It seems by now, any liquid left in the laptop would have long evaporated.
If you had very important files on the laptop you could try safely removing the hard drive, and insert it into a working laptop to recover the data. Otherwise, the laptop is dead. Water damage is detrimental to laptops.
It might be fixable but know that it'll probably cost you $500 to get someone to fix it. Check out Louis Rossman's YouTube channel for how MacBooks routinely get fixed. He doesn't do non-Apple products normally but there are many people like him that do.
You can try to place the motherboard in a oven (NOT microwave) at 90 degrees celcius max. for a few minutes.

Obviously you remove any plastic casing first.

Good luck !
I really hope people stop recommending rice in these situations......

Rice is a lot of starch.... When moisture gets to the rice it creates starchy shit that sits on the components and erodes the solder joints/traces.....

All it does is make it worse.

Best way is to completely tear it down, and douche the electronics in a sonic cleaner then dry it out in an oven.

If that’s not possible a q-tip and isopropal alchohol and some time is the next best thing.
