I have recently become interested in pentesting and cyber security.
Which has led me towards getting into hacking as sometimes the best defense is offense.
Security is my main focus so I'm not really sure where to start. Should I focus on being anonymous, a then develop hacking skills or vice versa.

Any advice other advice would be appreciated.

being stealthy is more a part of hacking than the other way around. learn hacking first. I recommend learning some networking and hacking techniques and then learn programming.

Thanks for the advice.
I already know a bit about networking the hardest part for me is finding the right hacks to get started learning I don't want to compromise my machine.
I am continually expanding my programming knowledge but have focused on C, Python, and Java.
Are those a good place to start?

where you start is personal preference mostly. I started more with the security/network side. that way once I knew about hacking and how it worked I could learn to build tools and stuff. those languages (especially python and c) will do you good though. learn security and networking as you learn the languages too. you should check out https://cybrary.it there's security, networking, pentesting, and maybe programming.
