The answer is Aaron’s rod, not Moses’. Here is the breakdown:

A staff or Rod, commonly used for walking or herding cattle.


During the 10 plagues in Egypt, Aaron’s staff was used to turn the Nile into blood and perform many miracles. Aaron’s staff was also turned into a snake which puzzled the Pharaoh and his magicians.


Imagery for the Israelites crossing through the Red Sea and staff in the hand of Moses and Aaron “herding” and guiding the people.


Not in chronological order, but you may have thought this was where Moses struck the rock to sprout water. Not so..

Drought: a prolonged absence of something specified.

Aaron’s staff was used to turn the Nile into blood. The Nile was the major drinking source in Egypt.

“The fish in the Nile shall die, and the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will grow weary of drinking water from the Nile.”

From this we conclude there was a drought in Egypt.


Aaron’s rod blossomed and produced almonds when the people revolted and doubted Moses/God.
