I happened across this post in the marketplace soliciting the exchange of popularity from other members for bitcoin.


From the Popularity System Help Page:

Can members ask other member to give them popularity ratings?
Yes, you can ask members to give you popularity ratings. It used to be a policy violation but now it's not.

From the Reporting Posts Help Page:

Popularity Abuse
Users may not, in any thread or PM, ask for, offer, or hint at popularity. Inciting people to give popularity to any user is also disallowed. More information regarding the popularity system can be found here.

Could a staff member please clarify this discrepancy?

Asking for popularity is allowed. Bottom quote must be a mistake, wait for an admin to see this and it should be fixed up.

Although it is important to note that PMing users for popularity isn't allowed, and making threads specifically asking for it isn't either, so the quote is partly valid.

Only rep limitation to my knowledge is free services. With that said - the Help Docs aren’t always up to date with some stuff I have noticed. HF has expanded so quickly and changed so much over such a short amount of time.

Here is a very valid point:

People are buying reputation points in the marketplace for a few cents, and then increasing their b-rating from that as well... Telling people to open contracts for their 25cent/rep exchange... This should not be allowed, it's defeating the purpose. People are buying market reputation for a quarter a pop.

Omni stated that Bytes for Reputation/Popularity is prohibited, but did not explicitly state other currency/property is not to be traded.

As someone whos fairly new here im confused.Is Bytes for Rep allowed or is that considered asking for rep?

I've began to go through them in their entirety at this point. If this the case, comprehensive updating should occur if Omni wishes to properly discourage PMs to staff regarding information found in the Help Docs.

I'm sure that will get edited in no time. Help documents should be updated with the newest changes/rules.

For example awards page, it says you cannot change award order nor sell your awards.. when you actually can.

The Reporting Posts Help Page seems to a bit outdated, as it cites the policy like it was back when reputation was still used to give marketplace feedback.

In this case the Popularity System Help Page is correct. The other help page will most likely be updated shortly.

It's prohibited in free section. You can't use that section for rep farming in any shape or form. Now, what you can find on forum is bunch of threads exchanging bytes for rep and vice versa. Those threads are in rewards forum and have always been since the beginning of bytes. If you think about it, it makes sense for them to be there as those are exchanges under $5.
