How far does "please" and "thank you" go with you?

I find manners to be the easiest thing for someone to display, whether that's in business, friendly conversation or idle chat. When someone can't even say "please" when asking for something, or are abrupt in how they talk to me when they want something from me, they immediately drop to the bottom of my priority list. It could be a sense of hubris, but I cannot tolerate people who lack the most basic of manners. Who's with me?
I'm with you.

Manners are free and i can't stand people who lack such a thing. I understand we all have rough days and it goes out the window but yeah i end up taking a step back from people like that.

Glad I'm not the only one! Yeah it's incredibly frustrating, like would it really hurt you to take an extra single second to use manners?!
Not too far. I do not like when people constantly "please" its a begging tactic. Especially online.
To me please and thank you don't go very far, whats more important to me is how someone says something, you can tell if someone is arrogant and abrupt literally just by how harsh they are with their sentences, please and thank you are just extensions of the sentence. It depends who your talking to too, you go to a buddies house n ur talking to their momma? U better fix up and have manners.

That being said i generally say please n thanks u a lot just cos a howa i was raised you feel me.
It gets annoying when it's used too much, but good manners are always a good thing
Tbh, I am a bit sketched out when someone is too kind. Feels like a SE attempt most of the time. Maybe it's because where I am coming from, nobody has manners. For me, as long as someone looks like a good guy, I don't care how he talks.
I'm also with you. I like to say 'please', 'thank you' etc. I'm a kind guy <3
I just demand things and once they're accomplished I'll drop a thanks
I always enjoy it when people use them on me but I find when i use manners I dont get far with it. sad but true

Manners were drilled into me in childhood and I have always used them since. I find people who lack them extremely rude. I also drill manners into my own kids with a popular saying in this house "Manners cost you nothing but can get you everywhere".

Some great input here guys, thanks! It appears that manners do mean a lot to most, but I do see the points made to the opposite, to a degree. It must have a lot to do with upbringing, but I don't think I'll ever shake the feeling of rudeness when someone can't say 'please' when asking me to do something. Given me a bit to think about!
I most DEFINITELY agree with this. Manners go a long way. You never know if a person is having a shit day so simply saying thank you when someone is opening a door for you is crucial. Or even saying "yes please" when someone is simply serving you food.

I agree 100%. Unfortunately if you've ever worked retail, you know that half of the population is oblivious to this.

I've never worked in retail myself, but a close friend always has and has long told us the horror stories of people he's dealt with. I remember once being in his store and seeing a colleague of his getting chewed out for not knowing what a very specific product was for, and was a bit shocked by how rude this person was to a stranger. I can't imagine I'd enjoy working in that industry!
