can i use Ubuntu and learn from Kali Linux tutorials?

I've been watching hacking tutorials on YT and everyone is using Kali Linux, but i was told to go with Ubuntu instead. So If i go through these tutorials step by step using Ubuntu will i get the same results? And also do you guys think Ubuntu is the best choice for beginners?
No, it's a different syntax in CLI. You could get concepts though.

Kali runs on Debian, so yes you will be fine. Kali is simply a Debian distro that is preloaded with security/pentest tools. All the tools in Kali can be run on an Ubuntu install. If you are following a tutorial that has a tool that your distro (Ubuntu) doesn't have, just download it with aptitude.

With that being said, some tools on Kali require other dependencies, so if you are not familiar with searching for and installing apps on an Ubuntu machine, you should just boot Kali into a VM or livecd and follow the tutorial that way. It would be much more beneficial for you to learn how to install the tools in the videos on Ubuntu and NOT TO USE Kali. You will learn more about Linux that way.

Use Ubuntu and get a Kali VM-Version. Dont forget to sudo apt update & sudo apt full-upgrade at Kali at first time starting. (Update all that beautiful tools Kali have)
For some single programms like yersinia or msf-console you can use ubuntu too. But i cant recommend. At first you will make a bunch of fails, better do that in a VM which you can easily setup new.

Anyway there are several ways to obtain utilities and tools from kali directly in ubuntu with few effort
Quoting my post of few days ago:

Quote:From ubuntu terminal
Download:
Code
git clone https://github.com/LionSec/katoolin
Move inside:
Code
cd katoolin
Executable
Code
chmod +x katoolin.py
Copy it in /usr/bin:
Code
sudo cp katoolin.py /usr/bin/katoolin
In this way the script will be executable always in your terminal with:
Code
sudo katoolin
From there the script is intuitive!

Remember katoolin is just one way, in this forum you will find many!

katoolin is objectively the buggiest piece of software ive ever used
and ive used shit from aur too bleh

Never used but I suggested it to a friend and he gave me positive feedback

Anyway there are really a lot of pre-set packets to get every kali utility and tool in Ubuntu or any other debian (and not only debian) distro

My point was he can simply install one of them, he will get for sure less troubles than using kali as first main linux distro
Hehe when people say star with Ubuntu what they are saying is first learn Linux before u try and use it directly for hacking.

Like learn to walk before u decide to go to olympics for running.

If all u plan on doing is following tutorial specific to Kali stick with Kali . Fair warning not going to be fruitful but worth a try.

Once u understand Ubuntu Kali is the same. It’s the same kernel just slightly modified to have all hacking tool.

The tool work exactly the same
