So basically I've installed windows 10 on my already existing ubuntu. I've tried installing it several times but everytime it says "installation complete, restarting", it goes straight to ubuntu system. I did check BIOS settings and it's like the system doesn't recognize Windows 10 has been installed. It only shows my USB stick (tried without it also but then only ubuntu shows). Now I do have my files on my disc (checked on ubuntu), I just don't know how to continue with the setup? I've been searching and googling but nothing I came accross worked so far.

Try that and let me know if you can then detect that Windows 10 is a valid boot option.

This is expected because Windows will not update your GRUB bootloader for you.


Normally, you'd address GRUB from the Linux OS manually. That requires some know how, but nothing short of a Google search. Ubuntu - being more user friendly - used to have a tool called boot-repair that would make the corrections for you. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair I think its still used... I haven't used it for a long time though.

Yeah when you install Windows over an existing Linux distro it's not set up a bootloader, if Linux and Win installed on separate disks you can load your Ubuntu with choosing that disk from bios and install grub2 loader. Otherwise go with webdev77's solution
