Either you
are an arrogant prick, or there's something else going on--the latter being more likely from the tone of your post, as most arrogant pricks wouldn't generally stop to ask the question.
If it's the 'something else going on', then it is likely that, while you're busy trying to make a better life for yourself, they're off doing whatever it is that they're used to doing
not making a better life, and they resent that you're not present with them, resent your success from working hard, resent your intelligence/abilities, etc, etc. I've seen this a bunch among niggas, drunk wetbacks and po'white trash. Generally, it's because the vast majority of the family is good for nothing, have accepted themselves as good for nothing, and thus make no efforts to be anything other than good for nothing.
Families such as that will often resent anyone trying to 'rise above their station', so to say, and will actively and subversively seek to drag down anyone that indicates a modicum of success in leaving that lifestyle--because it slaps them in the face with the fact that if they were to actively seek out opportunity and to work hard, that they also, could have risen above their station. They don't like it because it demonstrates clearly to them what they could have been or done, as well as their failures in doing so. Such people, regardless of their relation to you will only act as an anchor holding you down and as a resource sponge. They will not respect you, regardless of how far you go or how well you do, and they will not ever respect the things you give or provide to them.
This is a tale as old as time, and you see it in every nook and cranny of society. Look at all the rap stars and pro athletes that tried to stick it out in the neighborhoods they grew up in after hitting major success. They all, invariably, move away to better neighborhoods. Tommy Sotomayor and Stephan Molyneaux both have done excellent videos and conversations about dealing with types of people like this in situations such as yours. As tough as it is going to be, if you want to make your way ahead, and do so successfully, you are going to have to draw some lines in the sand and never, ever cross them. If you get successful enough, perhaps you could one day purchase a small enough house for you mother or whatever and give her an allowance to live on; but if you do
not, then most likely they will not stop until they have absolutely destroyed you and any self-confidence you have developed; because that kind of personality is actively invested in mutually-assured destruction, and will not stop until everyone they know is down in the same worthless state as they are.
This is the kind of mindset that socialism is born out of.
