couldn't get pcap handle, exiting

when I run "wash --interface wlan0" on Kali (for WPA/WPA2 cracking)
it always occurs as " ERROR: pcap_activate status -5

PCAP: no such device exists

couldn't get pcap handle, exiting
"

anyone has a clue why it appears to be like this? Furthermore, I tried running this command " airodump-ng --wps wlan0" rather than "wash--interface wlan0" but the command couldn't be found.

Thank you in advance. 😉
What wifi card do you have? Also is this a VM or what? Are you placing the device into monitor mode?
Have you tried this?
"sudo apt-get install sqlite3 libsqlite3-dev libpcap0.8-dev" (Without caption marks)

I have tp link TL-WN821N. and yes, it's for VM, Kali Linux. and yes, I did.!
The wifi device is plugged into the VM and is NOT used by the host OS correct? Double check with lsusb (I have seen people trying to use both the host OS adapter and also plugging in the wifi device and not connecting it to the VM or setting it up to work with the VM). Next ensure that the module is running lsmod | grep -i wifi , Very interesting also that airodump is not found, why not reinstall all the wifi tools in the VM. You didn't do something like setup another user in the VM did you? Kali really doesn't like it when you have actual users it's meant to run as root.
I did "sudo apt-get install sqlite3 libsqlite3-dev libpcap0.8-dev " , airodump and start the wash with sudo and I fix the problem.
