Good link on a private channel,

you may be interested in creating a private irc server - if this is something desired:

run your ircd (unreal etc.) on your server

allow users to access the server via ssh

from there they can use the client - irssi and connect to localhost

or you can configure users who ssh in to automatically be thrown into their client

doing this you only need to allow access in for ssh (ircd is not running exposed on any ports)

if you would like more info - plz feel free to contact -
